    Description:
From brand new movies to returning series, theres plenty to watch this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Some weeks, these streaming round-ups can be difficult to write this is not one of those occasions. In fact, theres so much great content dropping on streamers this weekend that weve extended our usual seven slots to eight, and omitted several other new movies and TV shows that might otherwise have made the cut.

Almost every major streamer gets a look in, too. Netflix sees the
long-awaited arrival of Sex Education season 3 , HBO Max gets Clint Eastwoods Cry Macho and Amazon benefits from several new feature films and series.
Hell, even Apple TV Plus gets a look in thanks to the return of The Morning Show.

Below, we round up eight of the biggest additions heading to streaming services this weekend from blockbuster movies to quirky animated series.
Best Netflix shows Best Netflix movies Best Apple TV Plus shows Sex Education (Netflix)

Lets start with the big one, shall we? After a slew of Covid-related production delays, Sex Education finally returns to Netflix this weekend for more sexually-charged antics from Moordales hormone-filled teens.

Season 3 picks up directly after the shows second season finale, which saw Jean discover that shes pregnant, Adam declare his love for Eric and Isaac delete Otis heartfelt message to Maeve. Oh, and an uber-traditional, sex-averse headteacher joins the school so expect plenty more tears,
    tantrums and twists.

The shows original ensemble all return, while Jason Isaacs, Dua Saleh and Jemima Kirke join the cast for the eight-episode third season.

Now available to stream on Netflix Cry Macho (HBO Max)

Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood returns to the screen (and the directors chair) in Cry Macho, an adaptation of the Mexican road-trip novel by N. Richard
    Nash.

Eastwood stars as Mike Milo, a one-hit wonder rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder, who takes a job from his ex-boss, Howard Polk (Dwight Yoakam), to bring his young son home from Mexico. Naturally, things dont go according to plan.

Critical reception has been mixed so far, with audiences highlighting the movies surprising lack of typical Eastwood grit but welcome helping of sentiment. The guy is 91, lest we forget.

US viewers can find Cry Macho on HBO Max, while those in the UK will need to head for the theater.

Now available to stream on HBO Max Everybody's Talking About Jamie (Amazon Prime Video)

A feature-length adaptation of the acclaimed West End musical, Everybody's Talking About Jamie follows the titular teenagers journey from Sheffield high school student to celebrated drag queen.

Newcomer Max Harwood stars as Jamie, Ralph Ineson as his unsupportive father and a much-lauded Richard E. Grant as local drag legend Miss Loco Chanelle. Expect rousing musical numbers and a tear-jerking defiance story from this
one everybodys talking about it, after all.

If youre a fan of Billy Elliot, Dear Evan Hansen or Hairspray, add this to your weekend watchlist.

Now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video The Morning Show (Apple TV Plus)

Apple TV Plus flagship drama series (although Ted Lasso may have snatched
that mantle now) returns to the streamer this weekend, with newsroom hosts Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon once again vying for the limelight.

Steve Carell, Mark Duplass and Emmy winner Billy Crudup all return, too, alongside newcomers Julianna Margulies, Will Arnett, Greta Lee and Hasan Minhaj.

The Morning Shows first season didnt take off in quite the same way Apple may have originally hoped, with a flashy, but somewhat frivolous consensus
leaving the series second season with work to do if it hopes to rank among
    the best shows around.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus Nightbooks (Netflix)

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi returns to producing duties with Nightbooks, a new Netflix movie following a scary story-obsessed boy (Winslow Fegley) who
is imprisoned by an evil witch (Krysten Ritter) in her magical apartment.

To stay alive, the young Alex must tell the witch a scary story every night, but he instead chooses to team up with another prisoner, Yasmin (Lidya Jewett), to find a way to escape.

The premise here seems novel, even if the trailer suggests Nightbooks is a relatively child-friendly adventure. Still, Stranger Things first season initially seemed made for kids, until it didnt

    Horror fans, take note.

Now available to stream on Netflix He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Netflix)

Yes, you read that right. For some reason, yet another He-Man series is landing on Netflix, just months after Masters of the Universe: Revelation (which itself is returning later this year) arrived to breathe new life into the fabled franchise.

This time around, though, the adventures of the titular hero are aimed at younger audiences, and come from the mind of DC Comics Bryan Q. Miller. The animation style is different, too, opting for a Fortnite-esque aesthetic that better suits this shows teenage protagonists.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reimagines the classic story of the Guardians of Grayskull, so those frustrated by Revelations narrative side-stepping may also find something to enjoy here.

Now available to stream on Netflix The Premise (Hulu)

The Offices B.J. Novak writes, directs and hosts this mysterious and experimental anthology series, which sets out to tackle "the biggest
    questions of our modern era."

Called The Premise, the show blends comedy and drama across five half-hour episodes, boasting an all-star cast which includes the likes of Jon Bernthal, Amy Landecker, Beau Bridges, Kaitlyn Dever, Ben Platt, the late Ed Asner and many more.

The first two episodes are available to stream now on Hulu in the US, while
UK viewers will have to wait until the show lands on streamers across the
    pond (possibly Amazon Prime Video).

Now available to stream on Hulu Uprising (Amazon Prime Video)

Speaking of which, the third of three Steve McQueen documentaries debuting this weekend on Prime Video (which all follow last years acclaimed Small Axe film anthology) is a three-part miniseries. Directed by McQueen and James Rogas, the trio draw connections between several key events in 1981: the Brixton riots, the Black People's Day of Action and the New Cross Fire.

Black Power: A British Story of Resistance and Subnormal: A British Scandal join Uprising as the other two documentaries hitting Prime over the next few days, which likewise highlight themes of education, segregation and institutional racism.

Its likely that none of them will be an easy watch is anything made by McQueen? but these docs nonetheless offer essential lessons in Black
    history.

Now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video Cobra Kai season 4 : what we know

8 new movies and TV shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and more this weekend

    Date:

    Description:
From original superhero adventures to poignant TV dramas, theres plenty to watch this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Typically, were able to spot themes in our weekly streaming round-ups. Sometimes, theres an influx of superhero adventures, other times a noticeable abundance of blood and gore. This weekend, though, a decidedly eclectic mix
of new movies and TV shows means were a little short on consistency.

Over the next few days, were being treated to all sorts of different content tense thrillers, returning comedies, poignant dramas, horror flicks and yes, even the odd comic book adventure (or two).

Below, we round up eight of the biggest additions coming to the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus and HBO Max to keep you parked in front of the screen this weekend. Best Netflix movies Best HBO Max movies Best Netflix shows What If ? (Disney Plus)

Indisputably the most radically different Marvel series to land on Disney
Plus so far, What If ? reimagines the stories of classic MCU characters by thrusting them into hypothetical situations that depart (sometimes drastically) from their mainline movie adventures.

Based on the comics of the same name, this 9-episode animated show (episode 1 is available now) sees Peggy Carter take the Super Soldier serum, Steve
Rogers don the Iron Man suit and T'Challa become Star Lord, among other wacky scenarios. Most of the MCUs cast return in voice form, too, which lends an authenticity to the wild stories.

In our review , we described What If ? as a surreal anthology series with limitless potential, and we also chatted to the shows creators to get a sense of just how important it was to mix up the Marvel formula.

Whether youre a superhero fan or simply enjoy outside-the-box TV concepts,
you wont want to miss this one.

Now available to stream on Disney Plus Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 (Peacock Premium)

The much-loved cop comedy returns for its eighth and final season this weekend, with the first two episodes arriving on Peacock Premium in the US.

The likes of Detective Jake Peralta, Captain Holt and Lieutenant Jeffords
will all be bidding farewell to a series that first aired in 2013 but not before addressing our unanswered questions. How will Jake and Amy handle having a child? Will Holt manage to become commissioner? Whats the deal with Rosa?

For UK viewers, this one may be a little trickier to get hold of (its
expected to land on E4, but not for a while, which is just annoying ), though we suggest consulting our how-to-watch Brooklyn Nine Nine season 8 guide for more on that.

Now available to stream on Peacock Premium in the US Beckett (Netflix)

John David Washington swaps entropy for mystery in Netflixs latest original movie, Beckett, directed by frequent Luca Guadagnino collaborator Ferdinando Cito Filomarino.

Following a tragic car accident in Greece, the titular American tourist finds himself at the center of a dangerous political conspiracy and on the run for his life. Vicky Krieps, Boyd Holbrook, and Alicia Vikander also star.

Critical reception has been mixed so far, but Beckett at least sounds like a novel take on the tried-and-tested manhunt formula.

Now available to stream on Netflix Neon Genesis Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (Amazon Prime Video)

Two years after Netflix made a splashy deal to bring the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series (one of the best anime around) to its streaming service, Amazon Prime Video has brought the later Rebuild movies over to its own streamer including this, the fourth and final movie in the series.

For the uninitiated, the four films retell the story of the original show
with nicer animation and multiple tweaks to how events play out. They can be enjoyed on their own without you ever having watched the series, but we'd recommend binging the show first and then giving this a try. That way you can compare and contrast.

Evangelion superficially looks like any other anime about a young man
destined for greatness, who pilots a big mech but as a million people will tell you, there's a lot more to it than that in terms of themes and imagery. It's really cool that Amazon found a way to get this fourth movie to viewers around the world without waiting for a theatrical release first.

Now streaming on Amazon Prime Video CODA (Apple TV Plus)

After bagging several awards at this years Sundance Film Festival, CODA
(short for Child of Deaf Adults) lands on Apple TV Plus this weekend as a touching portrait of a young girl living among her deaf fishing family.

A remake of the 2014 French film La Famille Blier, CODA stars Emilia Jones as main character Ruby, who explores her love of singing even as her familys business faces collapse.

By way of comparison, the last film to win both top Sundance awards was
Minari so this ones definitely worth a look.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus Modern Love season 2 (Amazon Prime Video)

Amazons acclaimed anthology series returns for a second season this weekend, with an all-star cast that includes Kit Harington, Garrett Hedlund, Miranda Richardson, Tobias Menzies, Anna Paquin, Minnie Driver and more.

Once again based on the popular New York Times column, Modern Loves sophomore outing tells eight more stories exploring relationships, love and human connection from all corners of the globe.

It looks like a right tear-jerker, to be honest.

Now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video Slasher: Flesh & Blood (Shudder)

Remember David Cronenberg, acclaimed director of The Fly, A History of Violence and Eastern Promises? Of course you do, but you might not remember him as an actor.

Well, the Canadian filmmaker stars (!) in Slasher: Flesh & Blood, the fourth instalment of the gruesome horror anthology which finds a new home on Shudder , having previously released on both Chiller and Netflix.

Flesh & Blood sees members of a wealthy family reuniting on a secluded
island, only to find themselves pitted against each other in a cruel game of life and death which sounds fun?

Episodes 1 and 2 are available to stream now, with remaining episodes
    arriving weekly.

Now available to stream on Shudder Titans season 3 (HBO Max)

The former DC Universe series becomes an HBO Max exclusive for its third season, which once again follows the exploits of Teen Titans Nightwing, Raven and Beast Boy, among others.

New episodes will see the titular heroes en route to Gotham City, where they reunite with old friends and face new threats (of the masked variety, most likely).

Given the juvenile nature of its source material, Titans has been praised for its darker take on some pretty complex characters so theres definitely something here for casual DC fans to enjoy.

Three new episodes are available to stream now, with the rest arriving in weekly instalments. Its also worth noting that the show is likely to land on Netflix later this year as with seasons 1 and 2, so UK viewers can hopefully get in on the action soon.

    Date:

    Description:
From returning sports series to original thrillers, theres plenty to watch this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

In light of last weekends underwhelming roster of new streaming additions (were looking at you, Space Jam: A New Legacy ), the next few days sees a decidedly stronger mix of movies and TV shows arriving on the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max .

This week, were treated to everything from original crime thrillers and weepy rom-coms to music documentaries and animated superhero series. Hell, even the humble sports drama gets a look in with the return of the excellent Ted Lasso on Apple TV Plus .

Below, we round up eight of the best new movies and TV shows to sink your teeth into this weekend not forgetting the customary Disney Plus arrivals, Marvel fans. Best Netflix movies Best HBO Max movies Best Netflix shows Ted Lasso season 2 (Apple TV Plus)

Arguably Apples most successful streaming property to date, Ted Lasso season
2 arrives on Apple TV Plus this weekend to alleviate those Euro 2020 withdrawal symptoms (depending on where youre reading this, of course).

The soccer-based, Jason Sudekis-led series hit all the right notes with its debut season back in 2020, and its second installment is expected to deliver more of the same drama, humor and heartwarming moments that made the first so popular with critics and audiences alike. Judging by the first episode , the introduction of new characters and subplots will make season 2 feel entirely fresh, too.

Episode one (of 12) is available to stream now, with new episodes dropping every Friday until October 8.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus Masters of the Universe: Revelation (Netflix)

Remember He-Man? Of course you do. Picking up where the 1980s animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe left off, this Netflix original traces the subsequent adventures of the famed superhero.

Its supposedly aimed at adult audiences, with more dialogue and narrative complexity than youd otherwise expect from a swords-and-sorcery series, but the shows classic visual style remains intact. Whats more, the likes of Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chris Wood, Lena Heady and
Alicia Silverstone should ensure this wont be a shallow affair.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will air in two parts, so only five episodes are available to stream today, with the remainder set to follow
    later in the year.

Now available to stream on Netflix Jolt (Amazon Prime Video)

Kate Beckinsale returns to the screen this week as a woman with a rare neurological disorder who uses electricity to limit her violent outbursts. After waking up to find the man she loves murdered, she sets out on a rage-filled quest for answers.

This doesnt seem like the most original premise in the world its a revenge thriller with a twist but a cast which includes Stanley Tucci, Bobby Cannavale, Jai Courtney, Laverne Cox and Susan Sarandon make Jolt at least worth a look in.

Theres been no critical reaction as yet, so were all going in blind.

Now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video The Last Letter From Your
    Lover (Netflix)

We all like a good cry, dont we? The Last Letter From Your Lover is the
latest theatrical adaptation of a Jojo Moyes' romance novel (after 2016s Me Before You), and sees a journalist set out to solve the mystery of a secret affair after finding a trove of love letters from the 1960s.

Shailene Woodley, Felicity Jones, Joe Alwyn and Callum Turner all star in a story that bears more than a few hallmarks of other weepy rom-coms, not least The Longest Ride. Again, theres been no critical reaction to this one just yet, but the near-universal praise bestowed upon Moyes 2008 novel looks set
to ensure The Last Letter From Your Lover isnt all style and no substance.

Its available to stream on Netflix in the US today, with UK audiences having to wait until August 6. Its also in theatres, mind, so Britons can still
watch it right now by heading to the nearest cinema.

Now available to stream on Netflix in the US Turner & Hooch (Disney Plus)

A series adaptation of the 1989 film starring Tom Hanks, Turner & Hooch sees U.S. Marshal Josh Peck unwillingly forced into caring for a destructive
    canine companion.

Kick Ass Lyndsy Fonseca also stars alongside Carra Patterson, with Burn
Notice creator Matt Nix on hand as executive producer on the 12-episode show. We dont expect big things from this one, but Turner & Hooch might be the mindless break we all need from the complexity of recent Disney adventures (read: Loki ).

Now available to stream on Disney Plus Marvel Studios Assembled: Making of Loki (Disney Plus)

Continuing Marvels behind-the-scenes Assembled series this week after equivalent episodes for WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier before it is the Making of Loki, which, as youll have guessed, shines a
light on the sets and special effects used to bring Disneys latest MCU adventure to life.

In this one-off special, we hear from the actors, writers, directors, and costume and set designers involved in producing the show, which has already been commissioned for a second season .

Expect to see as much mischief unfold behind the camera as in front of it.

Now available to stream on Disney Plus Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage (HBO Max)

Youve heard of the disastrous Fyre Festival, but what about Woodstock 99? The first film in Bill Simmons' Music Box HBO series, Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage charts the collapse of the 1999 Woodstock festival, which saw attendees subject to extreme heat, crowd violence and primal behaviour.

Future films in Simmons series, which are set to arrive later this year, will look at the likes of Alanis Morissette, DMX, Kenny G and more but Woodstok
99 is a pretty chaotic place to start.

If anything, it might make you grateful for being tucked up in front of the TV.

Now available to stream on HBO Max in the US Sexy Beasts (Netflix)

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to television in 2021. Netflixs Sexy Beasts is, at its core, a well-intentioned blind-dating series but theres a catch.
Quite a big one, actually. In this show, singletons will date three different suitors, all of whom have been turned wait for it into animals via prosthetics. Yes, animals.

You wont be surprised to learn that the Hollywood FX veterans behind these furry monstrosities are the same as those responsible for The Masked Singer. You also wont be surprised to learn that Sexy Beasts has taken the internet
    by storm.

Well let you decide for yourself if this one is worth your time.
