An investigation into recent electricity shortages in the state of California has revealed the root cause of the energy crisis that resulted in statewide blackouts. The precipitating event appears to have been a Tweet by a software engineer.

Time to give this VIM thing a try, tweeted Edmond Bridgeworth, a programmer for a Silicon Valley startup. Never used VIM before! Come try it with me! Thisll be fun!

It is estimated that roughly 1,000,000 Twitter users saw the tweet and
decided to also give this VIM thing a try.

We believe that roughly 99% of those first VIM launches are still running, stated Paul Botard, chief of the San Francisco Fire Department. These engineers didnt know what they were in for. Its like I tell cadets at the
Fire Academy never launch VIM without an exit strategy.

That was just the beginning, explained Botard.

In order to quickly test out exiting different versions of VIM, engineers began spinning up cloud virtual machines. None of these attempts were exited successful.

Thats when things got bad, continued Botard as he gazed into the past, disturbed at what he sees. They started calling friends for help. Tweeting. Someone asked on Hacker News. Thats about when the blackouts started.

At last count, roughly 7 Billion VIM instances are running in the California Bay Area alone, completely overwhelming the power grid.

When asked for comment, Satoshi Nakamoto, creator of Bitcoin, said, Well, not sure what Id have to say about some software using that much electri ooohhh,
