The answers to today's Strands, game #187, are PORRIDGE BEDS CHAIRS MAMA BABY PAPA HARD SOFT SPANGRAM: THREEBEARS My rating: Moderate My score: Perfect

A good Strands puzzle can itself be a lot like the Goldilocks and the Three Bears story that provides the theme for today's game: not too easy, not too hard, but just right .

And by that measure, this is a good Strands puzzle, because it sits comfortably in that middle range, presenting a challenge for sure, but not an insurmountable one.

The theme clue that aforementioned just right provided a relatively obtuse hint to the concept, but fortunately I spotted PORRIDGE very early on and
knew then what was needed here. But actually finding the words was a
different matter. It's a long time since I've read the story, obviously, and while I recalled some bits BEDS and CHAIRS were easy I got a bit stuck
after that.

Fortunately, placing the THREEBEARS spangram made the process a lot simpler, and I was able to fill in the remaining answers after a little thought and a lot of searching.

Here's yet another easy Strands puzzle to get your day off to a good start. And frankly, it's been a while since we've had a truly difficult one.

Today's theme is WESTERNS as per the spangram, a concept that was heavily teased by the theme clue of 'Boots and saddles' and confirmed the second I uncovered COWBOY. After that it was simply a question of hunting through
those letters like a prospector sifting for gold None were too hard to find, and I completed this one in about five minutes flat.

I've never been a fan of poetry, though I love words and language. Set it to music and it's a different matter and I guess the best lyricists are also poets. But ask me to talk about SCANSION and STANZAs and I'm a little lost. All of which is a way of justifying why I needed two hints to complete what for some people will probably be a fairly simple Strands puzzle.

I worked out what the theme was early on, with the clue of 'A way with words' and the fact that I found RHYME by accident combining to set me on the right track. But though I spotted a couple more, I couldn't get them all without needing a helping hand for METER and STANZA. After that I spotted the spangram, and the others were solved pretty much by a combination of
guesswork and my modicum of knowledge.

This was a spectacularly easy Strands puzzle. If the words 'Medieval marvel' didn't immediately conjure up a CASTLE to you, well, then, you didn't spend
as much time during your childhood playing with Lego, reading The Lord of The Rings or watching Robin Hood as I did.

I got the spangram right away, and that made the task of finding the other answers all the easier. None were remotely hard to think of or difficult to uncover, and I completed the whole thing in about three minutes.
