i have paperlessngx on a seperate machine without any scanner etc attached. but i set it to pickup documents from a certain folder and have made this folder available in my LAN.

so when i get an email with an invoice attached to it, i save to a local folder that is linked to that network folder. paperlessngx will automatically import it from there.
The same when i have scanned something from paper, i save it to that paperlessngx folder and it will be imported automatically.

similar for my mobile phone. i have added a folder that is linked to that network folder (using Material Files as a file manager in android). So using OSS-DocumentScanner on android and save it to that specific folder and paperlessngx will pick the file up and import it.

So in this case the scanner or scan software is the one you like. You just save everything scanned or digitally recceived pdf to the import folder.

That's good to know - I use my Canon MFP over the LAN. didn't know if
paperlessngx could talk to it, but I could use a dropfolder on the LAN
    like you described.

And paperlessngx has a LXC helper script for Proxmox - will definitely
    try this out!

helper scripts are a blessing! A real time saver! for some software you can now choose between ubuntu and Alpine Linux now. Alpine is great to save even more on resources.

ANd helper script are also great to just install something for a quick test and after that delete the lxc again.
