Lets get to all the homelab discussions already!
Let's talk about your homelabs.
Mine came together out of a series of cast-off equipment.
proxmox1 is a laptop with a dim screen and missing keys. It's only
2c/4t, but works well enough for my workloads. I upgraded the RAM to
32GB, and my holy grail of internet finds currently is a SATA Express
enclosure that would let me replace the single 2.5" SATA drive with dual
nvme. RAID mirroring in a laptop? Crazy!
I have a 5-bay Synology NAS that I bought for $110, no drives. I had a
bunch of 2tb drives left over from an old Dell Workstation and a couple
of shucked externals, giving me 7TB of space. It's running DNAS for my
TVs, synchronized documents and photos/videos from my desktop using
Resilio Sync, and an NFS share for my homelab.
I run OpenWRT on my routers, been playing with VPN on the routers to do selective routing at the network level. They also support VLANs, one
project of mine is to put my cameras and kitchen on a separate VLAN.
On Proxmox, I'm running the BBS as a Windows guest, Nginx Proxy Manager, Pi-Hole, a couple of retro VMs (OS/2 and Windows 95), and an Active
Directory test environment with a Windows 2022 server and Windows 11 client.
I use Searxng as a search engine, and I'm playing with Karakeep as a
bookmarks manager to replace pocket.
What I really want to do is get onto an unlimited internet connection
and back up the whole thing to block storage. Trying to back up 5TB of
data over Comcast would be painfully slow but expensive.
