    Hi,

as FTP is getting killed in recent versions of web browsers, I would like
to ask what alternatives others are using now :)

So, what FTP clients do you use in Linux, if any?
Are there nice simple GUI FTP clients?

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Anna

I would suggest FileZilla if you need a gui FTP application. I have used it a lot in the past, and I think it's probably one of the better ones.

Do you need to use an application though? If you can use scp instead from the cli, then just use nautilus or whatever file explorer you use in linux in the GUI, and just connect to a remote location using scp/ssh. I have done that too,

and that works nice. But if you specifically need FTP, then FileZilla might be worth looking at.

Yes, that's true for many things.
wget is useful if you have the whole URL available, and that's what I also use very often.
ncftp as a text mode, but not ncurses etc., client is not really what I'm searching - as I wrote "nice simple GUI FTP clients".
But it's nice to have it :)

I thought about the following usecase: If I encounter a ftp:// URL in a webpage, nowadays the browsers ask which application I want to open this
URL with and I then can associate one with this URL scheme.

So I'm searching for a nice application that will open instead of the
classic "FTP directory as a webpage" :)

I'll have a look at FileZilla, I wasn't really aware that it's available
    on Linux, too.
And I'll look at the kio-ftp mode in Dolphin (as I'm mostly using KDE).

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Anna

I like WinSCP if I need a GUI file transfer product in Windows. Works well.

thats not realy a recommendation but i was so used to my older windows
ftp client FlashFXP that i am still using it via wine today :)
Last version came out in 2016 and afaik the author is in jail right now.
well, if it does not work anymore one day for whatever reason i would
    probably switch to Filezilla.

Thank you for the suggestion. But as it seems to me, it is not only Windows-based and closed-source but also commercial software.

I've installed FileZilla and will look how I get around with it :)

I think FileZilla should accomplish all your needs satisfactorily.
