Hey ML, or anyone else too...
I recently grabbed a couple beginners Linux-escalation virtual-machin ISOsfrom www.vulnhub.com. They are souced from PUBLIC uploaders, but seem to be amostly cool community and I'm not too worried about hurti my local system.[Running on a sandboxed laptop IN a virtual machine.]
Anyway, have you heard of vulnhub.com? Think its a good way to learn Linuxescalation? Furthermore, they have tons of machines for other things and userlevels. I believe that there are some CTF's and stuff that might help someusers who are more advanced than I...
Sounds interesting, I have heard of but never used them. I will go check them out.
Thanks for sharing =)
So I found out a little more. These are [a lot of] the same virtual machine ISOs that are on HackTheBox.com, just that Kali Linux links to this site so as to not align with HackTheBox... both are good resources, and ARE cool.
Some are in .OMV files, which VirtualBox [or VMWare or your Hypervisor] can load quickly with no user input, and some are in standard Virtualbox format that you need to setup first...
There are TONS of different 'boxes' to hack, depending on your skill level. I am VERY amateur, but... still getting my feet wet. :P I WOULD suggest that anyone go there and learn. Fun stuff.
I've been learning and playing with a Wifi Pineapple, because you know... all the cool kids use them - but quickly found out that sure... I can follow some online howtos and BREAK THE LAW, but to really use this hardware the way I want
to, I need much more specialized knowledge...
At any rate, BOTH are really cool and fun to get into - I'm gonna continue to learn about Linux boxes, internet waves that shoot thru the air and simply more
than I knew yesterday. :P
w00t w00t!
