I've seen some cool mechanical keyboard setups; I haven't paid the price of admission, tho, and am pretty stoked about this software solution. LOL. I'm still running it - and I don't know if its bothering me or I love it. :P
I bought a Mechnical "Das Keyboard Ultimate" a few years ago. This is the VERY
clicky mechnical keyboard which has blank keycaps... no letters or symbols. I brought it to work and used it there, hoping it would improve my touch typing skills.
At first my co-workers were annoyed because it was so loud. Then they were impressed that I could type without having anything on the keys. The only problem was the shift-key symbols on the number row. Without anything on the keys it was very hard to figure out which key was & or ^ without having to hold
shift down and hit a few in order to find the right one. Normally this wasn't a big deal except password fields where there was no echo back. I would have to enter the complicated password via copy paste from a window where I could see it.
Eventually I got rid of the keyboard at work, and replaced it with a wireless Apple keyboard. And my coworkers complained again! They said they missed the clicks of the old keyboard...
