    Hey all,

Curious to know if there's a Miracast project for Linux that well .. a. works.

    b. offers extended monitor support and not just mirroring? I'm desperately trying to get rid of my last and used Windows based laptop and just haven't either searched the right areas of the web or Gnome is the only project and doesn't work for Extended Desktop.

    Hope all are well

This looks like it mentions something Zylone said previously; Miraclecast.

You know that I tried to get it to work and that Miraclecast is CLI... I think the project to try first is gnome-network-displays. It has a beautiful interface and LOOKS like it should just w0rk, but it did fail on my Samsung UN65MU6500 [6500 series 65"]. But, my TV prolly isn't the NEWEST. Sme users of gnome-networks-displays report full functionality. You should try it...

    sudo apt install gnome-network-displays

That will give you an app called 'Network Displays' and your TV *will* show right up... mine, however, doesn't cast correctly. You simply select which screen to share, and then the TV and click connect.

With Miraclecast, I was able to get a little further... the 'connecting to Miraclecast' logo showed up on my TV - but I still couldn't get a connection.

I'd give gnome-network-displays a stock install try first; after which, there is some tweaking that you can do w/ shutting down network manager and other things; but it isn't a solution I'm willing to do. [Killing my network manager and stuff..] HMMMM - I wonder if its as simple as turning off my VPN. I hadn't thought of that... I'll make another post if I get it cracking.

Not in the main repo, did you have to add a PPA for it? Or are you using something that isn't debian/ubuntu?

Ahhh - yea, I'm running Arch and it MAY have been a yay install. I'm dumb for not thinking that thru. The git is @ https://github.com/benzea/gnome-network-displays

and it is available as a FlatPack: https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.gnome.NetworkDisplays

Flathub might be easier for some to install using, even tho I'm not a fan. :P

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll mention the above to tG.

    What is Miracast?

    Hey ML,

Just now seeing these posts, thanks to everyone for their replies.

So some laptops / desktops have Wireless Display capability to cast a movie to a TV, or in my case with only 1 HDMI out, to a third monitor (1st, laptop display, second HDMI display, third wireless display.

There are two projects discussed here so far, however both only discuss mirroring (same image on my Laptop as on the TV, or on the 3rd wireless monitor). Everything I'm reading about Miraclecast and Gnome is that they do not support Extended wireless casting support (allowing me to watch movie on my

laptop display, BBS on my HDMI display, and a stock ticker on my wireless display) 1 computer three desktops.

I'm not comfortable whipping Windows off my machine, installing Ubuntu, and then either not working, as I (for various reason) have 4 displays total (laptop, 2 27", and a 55" TV).

So I thought I'd ask here.
