Google has announced that it will be speeding up the release schedule for their popular Chrome web browser with new releases to appear every 2.3
hours.

For more than a decade, Chrome has shipped a new milestone every six weeks, says Alex Mineer, Technical Program Manager for Chrome. As we have improved our testing and release processes for Chrome, it became clear that we could shorten our release cycle and deliver new features more quickly. We asked our release engineers just how quickly we could crank them out they said 2.3 hours. The rest is history.

With this new release schedule in place, users can expect to enjoy installing between 10 and 11 new versions of Chrome each day, with Chrome expected to
hit version 3,190 by the end of the calendar year.

In preemptive response to anticipated concerns by SysAdmins, Google has also announced an Extended Stable version of Chrome which will be released at a significantly slower schedule.

Extended Stable will be available to enterprise administrators who need additional time to manage updates, stated Mineer. Security updates on
Extended Stable will be released every 4.6 hours thats less than 6 new versions per day to fix important issues.

Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, had this to say about the news: Our users consistently tell us that their favorite part about using Chrome is
installing new versions. Imagine waking up in the morning, turning on your computer, and finding that you have a good half dozen updates waiting for you to enjoy installing. And knowing that you get to enjoy at least 5 more versions before the end of the day. Also weve made these updates mandatory. Youre welcome.

In other news, hospitals across the country are reporting a sudden spike in brain aneurysms afflicting SysAdmins.

The cause remains a mystery.
