    this weekend (March 31)

    Description:
From shiny new Apple TV Plus dramas to returning Netflix franchises, theres plenty to watch this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Apple TV Plus has made serious gains in stature (if not necessarily subscribers) over the last year or so, and if this weeks list of streaming recommendations is anything to go by, the burgeoning platform's cultural footprint looks set to continue growing in 2023.

Headlining the latest crop of new arrivals is Tetris , Apples fictionalized take on the creation of the famous video game, which is joined by new series The Big Door Prize and Eva the Owlet on Apple TV Plus . Also streaming this weekend is Murder Mystery 2 on Netflix , The Power on Prime Video and Rye
    Lane on Hulu .

Below, weve rounded up seven of the biggest new movies and TV shows to catch on streaming services over the next few days. Tetris (Apple TV Plus)

Hot on the heels of The Last of Us and Dungeons and Dragons , Tetris arrives on Apple TV Plus to add to 2023s already-stacked plate of video game adaptations.

Okay, thats not strictly true: Tetris isn't an adaptation of its titular (and plot-less) puzzler. Instead, this Taron Edgerton-led drama tells a fictionalized story of how entrepreneur Henk Rogers (Edgerton) risked it all to bring inventor Alexey Pajitnovs (Nikita Efremov) groundbreaking video game to the world in 1988. Think The Founder, but Tetris instead of McDonald's.

Critics have described Tetris as clever, crafty and shockingly entertaining, so the new film could make its way onto our list of the best Apple TV movies very soon.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus. Murder Mystery 2 (Netflix)

One of several star-studded new Netflix movies heading to the streamer over the next few months, Murder Mystery 2 is now available to stream.

A sequel to the (not-so-good) 2019 comedy about a couple whose vacation is turned upside down when theyre framed for a billionaire's murder, Murder Mystery 2 sees Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler reprise their roles as
Audrey and Nick, respectively, for more wise-cracking whodunit action this time on the streets of Paris.

Unfortunately, despite praise for its lead stars chemistry, critics have called this Netflix follow-up an object lesson in descending from mild enjoyment to none at all so were not expecting it to feature on our list of the best Netflix movies any time soon.

Now available to stream on Netflix. The Power (Prime Video)

Following the release of Swarm and Daisy Jones and the Six , Prime Video bosses will be hoping that The Power , which begins streaming this weekend, continues the platforms March hot streak.

Set in an alternate world where all teenage girls suddenly gain the power to electrocute people at will, this 10-part adaptation of Naomi Alderman's mega-popular novel of the same name stars Toni Collette, Auli'i Cravalho,
Josh Charles, Eddie Marsan, John Leguizamo, Rob Delaney and Alice Eve.
Suffice to say, thats an extremely promising setup.

The first three episodes of The Power are available to stream on Prime Video now, with the remaining seven installments set to arrive weekly every Friday. Dont miss this one, folks it has the makings of being one of the best Prime Video series of 2023.

Now available to stream on Prime Video. The Big Door Prize (Apple TV Plus)

Tetris isnt the only Apple TV Plus production in the offing this weekend
new series The Big Door Prize has also begun streaming on the platform.

Based on the book of the same name by M.O. Walsh and adapted by Schitt's
Creek scribe David West Read, this 10-episode drama centers on Dusty (Chris ODowd), a seemingly unremarkable man who stumbles across a mysterious, photobooth-sized machine that predicts the destinies of those who observe it (rather like the Zoltar machine in Big ).

Critics have called The Big Door Prize funny, friendly and beautifully light, with particular praise being bestowed upon ODowds immaculate comic timing so this could certainly be among the best Apple TV shows of 2023.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus. Unstable (Netflix)

Rob Lowe stars opposite his real-life son, John Owen Lowe, in new Netflix comedy series Unstable .

This eight-part show centers on Ellis (Lowe Sr.), an eccentric biotech entrepreneur who struggles to keep his company afloat following the death of his wife and the unexpected re-emergence of his estranged son (Lowe Jr.).

Sure, that all sounds remarkably bleak, but Unstable is most definitely a comedy and one which has earned wildly mixed reviews from critics. Some have called the series painfully funny, while others have branded it staggeringly joke-free. As such, wed suggest checking this one out for yourself to make your own judgment.

Now available to stream on Netflix. Rye Lane (Hulu)

Following a short-but-sweet theatrical run on both sides of the pond, Rye
Lane is now streaming on Hulu in the US.

Starring David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah, this colorful South London-set rom-com from first-time director Raine Allen-Miller follows two twenty-somethings, Dom and Yas, who bond over the messiness of their respective recent breakups.

Critics loved Rye Lane when it debuted at Sundance earlier this year, so this fresh and charming rom-com is definitely worth checking out if youre in the mood for a dose of saccharine storytelling this weekend. UK viewers will have to wait until May for the film to arrive on Disney Plus.

Now available to stream on Hulu in the US. Eva the Owlet (Apple TV Plus)

Heres one to enjoy with the (younger) kids this weekend. Arriving only a few months after Apples Oscar-winning childrens book adaptation The Boy, the
Mole, the Fox and the Horse , another page-to-screen series, Eva the Owlet , is now streaming on Apple TV Plus.

Based on Rebecca Elliott's Owl Diaries books, this eight-episode animation follows Eva, a creative owlet who keeps a record of her high-flying
    adventures in a colorful journal.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus.

    Description:
From new Prime Video dramas to returning Apple TV Plus series, theres plenty to watch this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Its a relatively quiet weekend on streaming services, with the usual smorgasbord of headline-grabbing arrivals making way for a handful of more under-the-radar titles.

Leading the charge is Beef on Netflix , a new dark comedy show starring
Steven Yeun, while Tiny Beautiful Things and On a Wing and a Prayer front the new additions to Hulu and Prime Video , respectively. Dont subscribe to any
of the above? Fear not. Amazon Freevee gets in on the action this week, too, with new mockumentary series Jury Duty .

Below, weve rounded up seven new movies and TV shows to catch on streaming services over the next few days. Beef (Netflix)

With HBO Max , Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus setting the TV agenda so far in 2023, Netflix is in need of a win and Beef may well be the series to provide it.

This 10-episode, A24-produced dark comedy series stars Steven Yeun as a struggling contractor who embarks on a quest for revenge when a successful entrepreneur (Ali Wong) deliberately crashes into his car (hence the shows bovine title). Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe and Patti Yasutake also feature.

Described by critics as deliciously subversive and wickedly funny, Beef is already on track to become one of the best Netflix shows of the year. All 10 episodes are available to stream now, too, so theres no need to wait on watching it.

Now available to stream on Netflix. Tiny Beautiful Things (Hulu, Disney
    Plus)

The column-to-screen adaptations continue in earnest this weekend with Tiny Beautiful Things , which is now streaming on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus
    in the UK.

Based on a collection of essays from Cheryl Strayeds long-running advice column Dear Sugar , this eight-episode drama series stars Kathryn Hahn as Clare, a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart (in other words, shes a stand-in for Strayed).

Multiple critics have described Tiny Beautiful Things as tear-jerking, with particular praise going towards Hahns captivating performance, so this could be one of the best Hulu shows of the year.

Now available to stream on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus in the UK. Transatlantic (Netflix)

After the success of All Quiet on the Western Front , Netflix winds back the clock once again with Transatlantic , its new wartime drama series.

Adapted by Unorthodox creator Anna Winger from Julie Orringer's true story-inspired novel The Flight Portfolio , this seven-part show recounts the heroics of a rescue committee that evacuated more than 2,000 refugees from Nazi-occupied France during WWII. Corey Stoll, Gillian Jacobs, Grgory Montel and Cory Michael Smith are among the series cast.

Reviews for Transatlantic have been decidedly mixed so far, but historical drama fans should find plenty to enjoy here.

Now available to stream on Netflix. On a Wing and a Prayer (Prime Video)

Dennis Quaid returns to his family-man-turned-action-hero roots this weekend with new Prime Video movie On a Wing and a Prayer .

Based on true events, the film tells the story of Doug White (Quaid), a private plane passenger whose capacity for heroism is tested when the aircrafts pilot mysteriously dies mid-flight. With his family on board, White must take control and land safely which, as youd expect, is easier said than done.

Judging by its trailer, were not expecting On a Wing and a Prayer to break onto our list of the best Prime Video movies anytime soon, but the film nonetheless looks like 90 minutes of harmless fun.

Now available to stream on Prime Video. Schmigadoon! season 2 (Apple TV
    Plus)

Schmigadoon! , one of the best Apple TV Plus shows , returns for its second season this weekend.

New episodes of the hit musical comedy shift proceedings away from
Schmigadoon itself to the equally magical city of wait for it Schmicago, where the likes of Keegan-Michael Key, Cecily Strong, Ariana DeBose, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming and Martin Short continue to make a big song and
dance of everything. Newcomers to season 2 include Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page.

The first two episodes of Schmigadoon! season 2 are available to stream now
on Apple TV Plus, with the remaining four installments set to arrive weekly every Wednesday through May 3.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus. Jury Duty (Amazon Freevee)

Freevee fans, listen up! Jury Duty a mockumentary-style workplace comedy
from The Office writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg is now streaming
    on the platform.

This eight-episode reality series centers on a fictional US trial where the
12 jurors are all paid actors except for one unwitting person. Designed to offer a never-before-seen look at the highly classified experience of serving on a jury, the show takes a microscope to how individuals behave in high-pressure circumstances.

The first four episodes of Jury Duty are available to stream now on Freevee, with the remaining four entries due to arrive in pairs every Friday through April 21.

Now available to stream on Amazon Freevee. Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker (Apple TV Plus)

Also streaming on Apple TV Plus this weekend is the exceptionally-titled
Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker .

Directed by acclaimed factual filmmaker Alex Gibney, this two-part
documentary shines a light on tennis great (and infamous ex-con) Boris
Becker, who became a sporting sensation when he won the first of his six majors at the age of just 17. Featuring multiple interviews with Becker himself, this isnt one to miss for sports fans.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus.

    this weekend (February 17)

    Description:
From returning sci-fi series to original dystopian dramas, theres plenty to watch this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

For all the talk of Netflix , Disney Plus and HBO Max being the big three of the streaming world, this weeks crop of TV recommendations is dominated by shows from Prime Video , Apple TV Plus and Paramount Plus .

Original Apple drama series Hello Tomorrow! arrives alongside new seasons of Star Trek: Picard and Carnival Row on Paramount Plus and Prime Video, respectively, while Apple TV Plus also gets a star-studded new movie in the form of Sharper . Surprisingly and for the first time since weve been
running these weekly lists there are no new headline-grabbing titles worth highlighting on Disney Plus or HBO Max.

Below, weve rounded up seven of the biggest new movies and TV shows to watch on streaming services this weekend. Star Trek: Picard season 3 (Paramount Plus)

The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard begins streaming on Paramount Plus this weekend.

Despite the decidedly cold reception to the shows second season , Patrick Stewarts titular space captain returns for one last 10-episode hurrah. Per season 3s official synopsis, a desperate message from a long-lost friend draws Picard into the most daring mission of his life, forcing him to recruit allies spanning generations old and new. Stewarts co-stars include Star Trek: The Next Generation alumni Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis.

The first episode of Star Trek: Picard season 3 is available to stream now on Paramount Plus in the US and Prime Video in the UK. Subsequent installments will be released every Thursday (or Friday if youre in the UK) until the series finale on April 20.

Now available to stream on Paramount Plus in the US and Prime Video in the UK. Carnival Row season 2 (Prime Video)

Speaking of Prime Video, one of the streamers highest-profile productions, Carnival Row , returns for its long-awaited second (and final) season this weekend.

Arriving well over three years after the shows season 1 premiere, new
episodes of Carnival Row find Philo (Orlando Bloom) and Vignette (Cara Delevigne) forced to navigate rising tensions between humanity and fae after
    a series of mysterious killings.

The series second season promises to be bigger and better than the first,
with 10 episodes instead of 8 and an action-packed trailer teasing plenty
more supernatural steampunk-ness. Heres hoping Carnival Row can soon earn a place on our list of the best Prime Video shows .

Now available to stream on Prime Video. Hello Tomorrow! (Apple TV Plus)

Apple TV Plus is fast becoming the go-to streamer for star-studded and boldly original prestige television, with Hello Tomorrow! marking just one of the many exciting new series heading to the platform in 2023.

Set in an alternate 1950s where a group of traveling salesmen led by Billy Crudup pitch timeshares on the moon, this retrofuturistic series from The
End of the F***ing World creator Jonathan Entwistle looks to boast a potent blend of drama, comedy and satire. Think Mad Men meets Fallout .

The first three episodes of Hello Tomorrow! are available to stream now on Apple TV Plus, with the remaining seven entries arriving every Friday through April 7.

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus. Red Rose (Netflix)

Another BBC-produced drama series, Red Rose , heads to Netflix
    internationally this weekend.

From The Haunting of Bly Manor creators Michael and Paul Clarkson, this eight-episode drama follows a group of school friends whose lives are turned upside down by a nefarious mobile app that threatens them with dangerous consequences if they do not meet its demands.

Upon its release in the UK last year, Red Rose was described by critics as entertainingly disturbing and creepier than Black Mirror, which sounds like
it could be among the best Netflix shows of 2023.

Now available to stream on Netflix. Sharper (Apple TV Plus)

Apples latest star-studded movie, Sharper , is now available to stream on Apple TV Plus after enjoying a brief theatrical release earlier this month.

Starring Sebastian Stan, Julianne Moore, John Lithgow, Justice Smith and Briana Middleton, this A24-produced feature follows a group of talented con artists who exclusively target Manhattan-based billionaires.

Critics have near-universally praised Sharper for being a gorgeous, whip
smart con film buzzing with intellectual ideas, making it a shoo-in for a
spot on our list of the best Apple TV Plus movies .

Now available to stream on Apple TV Plus. Full Swing (Netflix)

Arriving just one month after Break Point on Netflix this weekend is Full Swing , another Drive to Survive -style sports docuseries.

This eight-episode production follows a diverse group of professional golfers
on and off the course during a relentless season of PGA Tour competition. The likes of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler and Ian Poulter lend their candid insight.

As well as lifting the veil on the realities of the PGA Tour itself, Full Swing will also delve into the Golfing "civil war" created by the Saudi Arabian-backed breakaway competition, LIV Golf, which should intrigue even those who arent into their bogeys and birdies.

Now available to stream on Netflix. African Queens: Njinga (Netflix)

The second of this weeks documentary picks is African Queens: Njinga on Netflix, a hybrid documentary/drama anthology series produced and narrated by Jada Pinkett Smith.

The shows four-episode first season which has so far earned mixed reviews focuses on the life and legacy of 17th century warrior queen Njinga of
Angola, who ruled in modern day Angola. A second season has already been ordered by Netflix, and is expected to debut next year.

Now available to stream on Netflix.
