The answers to today's Strands, game #217, are BACON CHICKEN TOMATO VINAIGRETTE GREENS EGGS SPANGRAM: COBBSALAD My rating: Moderate My score: Perfect

I presume there might be a split between people in the US and those in the rest of the world here. Or maybe it's only me that had not really heard of a COBBSALAD and therefore struggled to solve this one. I was also very confused by the theme clue of 'Got any bleu cheese?', which made me think it was something French because otherwise why is it spelled 'bleu' and not 'blue'. So the whole thing was a bit baffling.

I solved it in the end, but it was really just a case of trial and error. I spotted BACON early on, and CHICKEN too, so I realized it was a food-themed puzzle. The others took me a while to find, and getting the spangram was entirely based on there being nothing else it could be by the time that I got it. Not the most satisfying game for me though if you know and like Cobb Salad (which to me sounds disgusting) then maybe you'll have been fine with it. Ho hum.

The answers to today's Strands, game #224, are VEST SWEATER FLANNEL FLEECE CARDIGAN SCARF SPANGRAM: FALLFASHION My rating: Easy My score: 1 hint

I needed the near-obligatory one hint to get started today, with the theme clue of 'Time to get cozy' not giving me quite enough info to be able to work out that the answers were all examples of FALLFASHION as the spangram would have it.

Once I had that, it wasn't too bad, although my idea of fall fashion (autumn fashion where I am in the UK) is more t-shirt and hoodie than CARDIGAN,
FLEECE or FLANNEL. But they were all relatively easy to find, and I doubt
    many people will struggle today.

The answers to today's Strands, game #231, are OTTOMAN RECLINER TABLE SOFA FIREPLACE SHELF SPANGRAM: LIVING ROOM My rating: Easy My score: Perfect

Today's Strands gave me a good reminder not to jump to conclusions, which I guess is a good lesson for life in general. The theme clue of 'Make yourself at home' had already suggested relaxing in some way, so when I spotted
OTTOMAN followed by RECLINER I was sure that 'things you sit on' would be the answer. When I followed up with TABLE I was slightly confused but I figured maybe there was such thing as a table chair, and I just didn't know the term. And then I got SOFA and my hunch seemed all but confirmed.

At that point, however, I stalled. I couldn't find any more words that worked and couldn't see what the spangram could be. So I had another look and tried to think less literally. And there before me, obvious for all to see, was the spangram: LIVINGROOM. Everything made sense now, and I was able to add FIREPLACE and SHELF to complete the set.

The answers to today's Strands, game #238, are CLASS PARTY LITTER LIFE CREAM CROP HEAD PICK SPANGRAM: PERFECTPAIR My rating: Hard My score: Perfect

Wow, this was far harder than the average Strands puzzle. And far more conceptual than many of the most recent games, which have essentially been related words about a topic you may or may not have had experience with. In contrast, this is all about language, really all eight words are of the format __ of the __, for instance CREAM of the CROP or LIFE of the PARTY,
with the first being the 'best' example of the second.

I had no idea what was going on for roughly half of the game, uncovering
words at regular intervals but failing to spot any kind of connection between them or between them and the theme clue of 'Best of the best'. It was only when I found LIFE that it started to make sense. I already had PARTY, and those two words obviously went together. When I found CREAM and then CROP in quick succession it was clear what I needed to do, and I was able to come up with the remaining words without any issues after that. But it's a
    challenging one, for sure.
