The answers to today's Strands, game #215, are TITLE ATLAS FLARE MANUAL QUARTER REGISTRATION SPANGRAM: GLOVEBOX My rating: Moderate My score: 3 hints

I'm sorry but this Strands puzzle does not work. Or rather, it does not work for me. At all. The spangram/theme is GLOVEBOX, but of the six things listed for it, only one would be found within mine. MANUAL? No, that's on an app it's not 2015 any more. ATLAS? Are you serious? It's not 2010. Have you not heard of Google Maps! FLARE? Er, no, that sounds dangerous. QUARTER? One, I'm not in the US, so of course not. Two, I don't use coins any more, it's not 2018.

This whole puzzle is just bizarre from my point of view. Look inside my glovebox and you'd find some boiled sweets, a scraper for the windscreen, a battery charge pack and that's about it. There may be cultural differences at play here, admittedly, but that made it all rather difficult to solve and I needed three hints to complete the game.

Ah, the CHEMISTRYLAB. The pop of hydrogen/oxygen, the flash of magnesium, the smell of burning hair from someone getting too close to the Bunsen burner those were the days. Fortunately, there's a lot less risk involved in solving Strands. And that's particularly true today, because it's likely to be an
easy one for most people.

The second I saw the theme clue of 'Let's experiment' I thought 'Science!'
and knew what would be expected here. And I was right, with BEAKER and FLASK, my first two, confirming the concept. After that it was a simple matter of thinking back to those days spent messing around with potassium, phosphorus and all the other chemicals I should probably never have been allowed near at the age of 13

These are all things that I like to eat, so you'd have thought that I'd have flown through today's Strands but no, I needed three hints to complete it. The shame!

In my defense, the first one was required because the theme clue of 'All wrapped up' wasn't so obvious that I knew what was needed. It gave me GYOZA, at which point I was away and was able to get SAMOSA too. But there I
stalled. I couldn't think of any other 'wrapped foods', so needed one hint
for WONTON and one for PIEROGI. I got EMPANADA, but only after about 20 minutes of trying to make the letters assemble into an actual word. Not my finest hour.

What better way to end the working week than by solving a Strands puzzle that's all about PETSOUNDS. No, not the Beach Boys album though I would have been VERY happy to have had a Strands game with that as the theme but rather the actual sounds made by animals. For instance SQUEAK, PURR, BARK, MEOW and CHIRP.

They're all pretty obvious, to be honest, so I doubt anyone here will have struggled too much. The most difficult element will have been to get started, but many of the answers are easy to find, so even that is unlikely to have troubled you by much.
