The answers to today's Strands, game #212, are PARAMOUNT DISCOVERY HISTORY HALLMARK LIFETIME SPANGRAM: NETWORK My rating: Moderate My score: Perfect

This is a similar one to yesterday's in that not everyone will find it easy, but some definitely will. I didn't because I'm not based in the US and therefore don't have access to all of the same NETWORKs as many Strands players will. I've never heard of LIFETIME, for instance, and have never watched HALLMARK (I'm not sure it's even available here).

That said, I didn't find it that difficult once I'd got the spangram and confirmed the overall theme. The likes of PARAMOUNT, DISCOVERY and HISTORY
are well known and available around the world, so this puzzle is beatable
even if you're not that familiar with US cable TV.

The answers to today's Strands, game #219, are LOCK PASSWORD SAFE BACKUP FIREWALL ENCRYPTION SPANGRAM: SECURITY My rating: Moderate My score: 2 hints

The trouble here was that even once I realized the theme was SECURITY, as the spangram would have it, I was thinking physical and not digital. That's maybe not surprising as my first hint had given me LOCK, and combined with the
theme clue of 'Protective measures' that got me thinking of ways you protective yourself in the world, rather specifically online. And indeed,
they weren't all online SAFE was also in there. But thinking of the likes of ENCRYPTION and FIREWALL was harder, so I needed another hint to get me to the finish line, safe and sound.

This was a tricky Strands puzzle. The words are all well known, but I wasn't entirely sure what it was I was looking for until a fair way into it, and it took me ages to find the spangram. That answer CREATUREFEATURE winds up and down the board using 15 letters, so getting it was fairly crucial to solving the puzzle. It's always crucial, of course, but on some days it doesn't have an immediate impact on the ease with which you find most of the other solutions, but here it was so long that you really needed it in order to rule out others. I was never comfortable today until I had it, and that was late on.

The answers to today's Strands, game #233, are COBALT AZURE TURQUOISE INDIGO NAVY PERIWINKLE SPANGRAM: THEBLUES My rating: Easy My score: Perfect

The theme clues for Strands can sometimes give away too much, and today was one of those days. 'Cool color!' screamed the hint, so clearly it was going
to be shades of a particular color; 'cool' made it obvious it would be blue.

That didn't make finding them all that simple of course, because though I got COBALT and AZURE near the top of the board early, then uncovered TURQUOISE by focusing on what the Q could go with, I got a little stuck for a while after that. I could see the word BLUE in the middle of the board and figured it would be part of the spangram, but it took me a while to establish that I needed THEBLUES. The other answers slotted into place fairly easily after that.

COMPANION SIDEKICK SPANGRAM: TOGETHERNESS My rating: Easy My score: Perfect

Strands is generally at its easiest when the words are all simple synonyms and today's is one such example. There are only five words to find, because the spangram, TOGETHERNESS, is so long, and the likes of FRIEND, COMPANION
and BESTIE are all pretty obvious. Finding that spangram was the hardest part of it, but even that was only the work of a minute or so.
