The answers to today's Strands, game #100, are LIFT ELEVATE EXALT SUPPORT HOIST BOOST LEVITATE SPANGRAM: ALLRISE My rating: Moderate My score: Perfect

This is a slightly more standard Strands puzzle than some, in that rather
than being grouped words as such it's mostly synonyms. That said, the spangram, ALLRISE, doesn't really fit that pattern. Or maybe I'm being unfair
I suppose all of the answers do mean RISE, so in that sense it works.

Either way, I found this to be a little harder than some Strands puzzles. Thinking of synonyms should be second nature to me, but it's easier in theory than practice, and even once I thought of one I couldn't necessarily uncover it; it took me ages to place ELEVATE, for instance. Still, I got there in the end.

The answers to today's Strands, game #107, are TOOTHBRUSH PENCIL HANDLEBAR WALRUS HORSESHOE SPANGRAM: MUSTACHE My rating: Moderate My score: 1 hint

This is classic Strands challenge, in that it's really tough until you know what the concept is, and then once you work that out it gets a lot easier. However, this one was complicated for me by a spelling difference.

In the English-speaking world outside of the United States, MUSTACHE is spelled MOUSTACHE. And that rather tripped me up, because though I had an inkling for what it might be early on, the fact that I couldn't find an MOU pattern on the board left me bewildered and searching for a different angle.

In the end, I needed one hint to get me started, but once I had PENCIL, plus the theme clue of 'It's right under your nose!', I decided that it simply had to be related to facial hair and started to look for others. After a few minutes I realized my mistake and found the spangram, and the rest of the answers followed swiftly afterwards.

The answers to today's Strands, game #114, are SPARE SPLIT STRIKE TURKEY LANE PINS ALLEY GUTTER SPANGRAM: BOWLING My rating: Easy My score: Perfect

I'm awful at bowling; my best score ever was about 100, I think, which would be considered a disaster for a decent player. Although that said, I am a champion at the game on Nintendo Switch / Wii, so that counts for something, right?

Anyway, my inability to knock down pins in real life didn't impact my game today, which went a lot more smoothly. I didn't spot the concept from the theme clue, which was a little obtuse, but picked up both SPARE and SPLIT by accident, and at that stage knew exactly what the remaining answers would be related to. I got the spangram next, which made the task of finding the other solutions easier still, and completed the whole thing in a lot less time than it would take to complete an actual game of bowling.
