Apple, Inc. today announced that the Mac platform would migrate away from the ARM-based M1 & M2 processor line, in favor of the RISC-V architecture.

Weve been using the M1 for, what, like two years already? That feels like long enough, stated Apple CEO, Tim Cook. I mean, come on. Were Apple. Changing CPU architectures is kinda what we do.

The announcement sent shockwaves throughout the industry, with many analysts quick to provide their opinions.

Apple only supporting the M1 processor for 2 years? Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous, exclaimed one analyst from Gartner. I mean, we all expected at least one more year of M1 before Apple switched to a new architecture right?

When asked why the RISC-V architecture was specifically chosen as the new CPU for all Macintoshes, Tim Cook stated simply, Why not!

One Apple engineer, speaking to The Lunduke Journal on the condition of anonymity, had this to say:

Honestly, I think Tim was just bored. But it is kinda cool, though. We, as
a company, are treating processors like Pokemon. 6502, 68000, PowerPC, x86, M1 now RISC-V? Gotta collect em all! Im rooting for the Z80 next!
