FULL STORY ======================================================================
Every Saturday, lets look back at the important news of the week.
You know. News about Linux, Alternative Operating Systems, and new developments in Retro Computing. The stuff that matters.
Xbox Live 1.0 Is Getting A Replacement, And It'll Support 13 Games At Launch
This is pretty darn cool. A team has been re-creating the original release
of Xbox Live and theyve now hit a point where 13 original Xbox Live games
are playable and are conducting a closed Alpha test. With an open Beta
coming some time in the future (no firm ETA has been announced).
Games currently working include: Counter-Strike, MechAssault, Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II, and Unreal Championship.
Wordperfect for UNIX ported to Linux
The same mad scientist that managed to tweak the UNIX version of Lotus 1-2-3 to run on Linux has done the same thing for the UNIX version of Wordperfect.
Check it out. Its wild:
Atari 2600 LEGO set announced
The LEGO set will be available starting August 1st for $240 and consists of 2,532 pieces (just a little shy of 2,600 a nice touch). Its not playable (obviously), but it has little switches and all sorts of fun details.
Concerns at the Debian project about Rust being non-free
Remember when Debian was forced to rename their build of Firefox to Iceweasel because of copyright issues? Well now something similar appears to be happening with Rust. Going so far as Rust being declared non-free by some within Debian. Where will this go? Hard to say. But its worth keeping an eye on.
