I haven't had a burrito for years. Don't think we get decent burritos here in the UK, I could be wrong, but I haven't seen anywhere that does them I don't think.
What constitutes a great burrito?
Oh man. Great question.
Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what I would consider a great burrito is the mix of ingredients. Whatever you are putting in there you
want the different ingredients evenly distributed. You don't want all your meat at one end, and your guacamole at the other end. You what it spread out evenly -- so every bite is perfect.
Then you want to make sure there is enough sauce that you get lots of flavor and no bite is too dry... but not so much that it's leaking all over your hand and arm as you eat it. Sauce can be salsa, hot sauce, sour cream, whatever.
Lastly, if you're putting in meat, you gotta make sure the meat isn't too dry, and isn't in huge tough chunks. If you're putting in Carne Asada (steak) cut smaller strips, make sure they are tender. If it's chicken, shreaded is best.
My ultimate burrito has: either Carne Asada or Chicken, pinto beans, cheese, salsa, guacamole, lettuce. Rice is optional -- too much rice makes a burrito too filling, so if there is rice, just a bit. I like lots of cheese. Its best
if they put the burrito in an oven to warm it up just prior to serving, this melts the cheese.... mmmm.
I might get a lot of hate for this next comment. In London, I know they have Chipotle Mexican Grills. I saw them. Now, I didn't get a burrito there, I wish I had. But a Chipotle is capable of building an excellent burrito if they
have the right ingredients and are cooking them properly. I might try there if
you're ever in or around London. For me their best burrito is: Chicken, Pinto Beans, a bit of Rice, Medium Salsa, Corn Salsa, Cheese, Guacamole, Lettuce. But you can assemble any combo you want. Don't forget the Chips and Salsa for the side. :-)
Now I'm really hungry.
