I was running a Synology 2600ac router as my gateway, but it started
rebooting itself once a day intermittently. I replaced it with my old
Linksys WRT1900AC running OpenWRT. One thing I missed about my
Synology router was having an easy VPN server solution for when I need
to access my home network remotely.
A little work, and I was able to get Wireguard working on OpenWRT.
Oddly, I'm finding torrent speeds increased greatly when I moved to
OpenWRT, although that might be a coincidence as Xfinity also increased
my download speed. Not that I ever came close to it...
Another benefit is that it'll be easier to set up VLANs. I want to set
up a proper guest network and separate out my test network onto separate
VLANs, and both routers are running on OpenWRT now.
