Don't even get me started. Paramount just doesn't know what to do with all the money they clearly have to make a good show.

They lost me at Star Trek: Discovery. That Michael chick, like who cast her, jeez! But, it was one of the first "new" things out of Star Trek universe and I was willing to give it a try. Waste... of... time...

The best thing about that entire show was Philippa Georgiou (played by Michelle Yeoh). Then they teased us with Section 31, where she'd be the lead, and they, and instead of a TV show they made a movie, which was an absolute abomination and waste of everyone's time and her talent.

In the meantime Picard came out and they got me back to liking them, to an extent. Not 100% my kind of Picard (especially being a TNG fan), however, with some episodes directed by Jonathan Frakes, I was, for the most part, happy.

They, to an extent, hit a home run with Strange New Worlds. I really like Anson Mount playing Christopher Pike... While still a bit fantastical, it was much closer to the Star Trek I remember. Entire cast, without a fail, grew on me and I really ended up liking them all.

Now, onto your question, re: Star Fleet Academy

I gave it a try, two episodes, thinking maybe it'll grow on me. It really did not. They way everyone behaves, screams, plays childish games, Nahla Ake (chancellor of the academy) acting like a 5-year old, first "lounging" in captain's chair on the ship (fine, funny once), but then spinning in chair while talking serious stuff with her staff, talking to everyone while laying on her back, walking around barefoot, seriously ... Set phasers on KILL, and just shoot met now. Just DO IT!

Also, all this rivalry between cadets, sure somehow the show will make them grow to like one another and become this great, very capable team, but it lacks the CORE of what Star Trek was all about.

Humans were simply a better version of what we are in 2026 (for the most part). Not after leaving Starfleet Academy, but in general, and ESPECIALLY those joining the Starfleet Academy.

I am certain the Academy did not recruit a bunch of uneducated inbreeds into whom self-discipline, integrity, rational thought, scientific curiosity, diplomacy over violence, duty to serve, HONOR, tolerance, loyalty, respect for law, and sacrifice will somehow just be instilled... Give me a break.

Shit humans do not become great officers and leaders (at least in Star Trek). Now, in real world - that's a different story :)

As a long time fan and a long time member of STARFLEET International, I must say that I am really enjoying. And yesterdays dedication to Avery Brooks was really very good. I'm also enjoying the interplay between the Academy and the War College cadets.

When it was first announced, I was really skeptical. I thought they'd treat it like some 90210 in space or something similar, however, so far, that hasen't happened and I've been quite happy with the episodes. It helps that there are some familiar faces in the mix. I am a bit disappointed that it takes place in the far futue Federation, but I can see why they did it; allowing them to explore new angles without having to try and stick to established canon.

One aspect of the show I'm not clear on is the existance of the War College. I don't believe this was mentioned in STD. I'd like some background on these folks.

I haven't seen it... yet. But I will give it a shoot and watch an episode or two. It'll probably suck. :)

Can it be crappier than ST:Discovery? Hated that show and I didn't like captain Burnham. Georgiou was ok and I also liked Saru. And wtf was the deal with the klingons? Even worse than ST:TOS-klingons.

However, I liked ST:Picard. It grew on me. And ST:Strange New Worlds was really good. It dipped a bit in season 3 but s1-2 was terrific. It had one of the best crossovers ever. And ST:Lower Decks is great too.

I miss ST:Enterprise. Such a great series.

My wife and I are both Star Trek fans, and we just watched the first episode last night. We actually enjoyed it. Personally I'm not sure it would be my favorite series, but the episode kept our interest and seemed interesting. I enjoyed it better than Discovery's first season (I was really dubious about Discovery when it first started, due to the changed appearance of the Klingons and advanced-looking technology, etc.).

Also though, ever since Discovery jumped so far into the future and stayed there, I've been dubious about any Star Trek content being set that far in the future, as it means they now have to take the future (as well as the past) into consideration in Star Trek canon. When Discovery went into the future, I thought that perhaps at some point they'd find a way to go back to their own time (meaning the future would still be unwritten), but they didn't do that.

I do like Strange New Worlds. Still, I keep wondering why they had been doing those prequel (pre-Kirk) series for a while. Star Trek: Enterprise was interesting, but then when Discovery came out, I started wondering why they wanted to do yet another pre-Kirk series. Then Strange New Worlds, same thought, but that is a good show.

For a long time, I've thought that if they wanted to do a sort of prequel Star Trek show, it would be interesting if they made a show about the Enterprise B or Enterprise C, since we only saw each of those once in Star Trek canon. A show or a series of movies about thsoe would be interesting, I think.

Other than that, I'd like to see more Star Trek shows that are set after TNG, DS9, and Voyager. And I was dubious about anything set 800+ years in the future, as they ended up doing with Discovery, and now Starfleet Academy.

I think the problem with having Star Trek series set so far into the future is that now, they have to take the future into consideration, in addition to the past, in Star Trek canon now. When making more Star Trek content, they now need to make sure they won't do anything that would break past canon as well as making sure the future makes sense.

I think Picard season 3 was the best season of the show. And I really like Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds too. I didn't think Strange New Worlds dipped at all in season 3; I enjoy all of it, and I'm looking forward to the next seasons.

Back in the day I couldn't get into DS9. Just a couple of years ago someone suggested starting with season 3, which we did.

We ended up watching the series all the way through from that point. Once we got to the end we started back and went through seasons 1-2.

I still would say Season 3+ is better than 1 & 2, but after finishing the series we were invested in the characters which made it easier.

I like it, though if you're used to TOS, TNG, and Voyager, I think DS9 took a bit of time to get used to.

When DS9 first aired originally, it was a bit different from typical Star Trek in that it was set on a space station rather than a starship. I think it also had more political stuff in it than other Star Trek series. At first I didn't like it quite as much as the other Star Trek series and only watched it sporadically, but eventually I watched all of DS9, and I enjoyed it.

It's shallow, inconsistent, and breaks with Star Trek canon in a hundred different ways.

My best guess is that the producer (Alex Kurtzman) is trying to appeal to a completely new audience because competing with the best of previous Star Treks is a tall order. It's a way to milk the franchise without contributing anything of merit.

OK. I've the season 6 somewhere in DVD... I don't know if this is best to see at this point. Maybe to see a little if i like or not.

The promotional material I have seen suggests it is a romcom so I entirely skipped it.

I have heard a video of a Mr. Spock doll sitting on a chair got more audience than the first episode of the series, which I find brutal myself.

I have read some of the early reviews that also suggested same. One
mentioned something about "horny teenagers." As I am well past that point
in my life, that made it uninteresting.

I like the storytelling on SNW as well. And I actually enjoyed the singing episode.. I feel like it doesn't hurt to have some sillyness in Star Trek like that (and they do a lot more sillyness on Lower Decks). But I can see why people wouldn't like that episode. I think one downside, though, is that they're only doing 10 episode per season, so that episode is 10% of the whole series. When they're only making 10 episodes per season, I think they should be careful about making an episode that a lot of people might not like. Back when TV shows often had 25-26 episodes per season, that wasn't as big of an issue (though I think there were often more episodes that people didn't care for too much or were a bit boring).

I'm 1.5 episodes in so far. One thing struck me immediately and that's the overuse of cgi. Everything feels very plastic. And some of the characters I don't really care about. More to follow.

There's a reason for that: When JMS first created the series, he intended to have a five-season story arc. However, stuff happens and he was forced to do it in four. When he learned he could have a fifth season, he had to scramble to come up with a new arc. It wasn't bad, but it did feel a bit disjointed. It's still one of my favorite sci-fi shows.

I stopped to watch B5 at middle of the season 5. I don't know why.

I have the complete BSG series in blue-ray, i don't know if it is from 2004. Sorry, i don't liked it after watching the 1st episode.

I wonder about shows when they have a conflict between money and
continuity and story.

The New Girl's penultimate season ended with the resolution of a
relationship between the two characters and two others getting married.
Would have been a great ending to the show - and was intended to be.
Then, they were greenlit for another season, did a time jump, moved out
of the house they were in, the married couple had a kid -- very
disjointed.

Ted Lasso ended up in a good place with resolutions for most of the
main characters in a supercut scene, Ted going back home to the US and
settling in with his family, and a potential hook for another season,
but should have ended there.

There's going to be another season, curious to see how they tie things
up again.
