• Next auto-posting test

From Adept@21:2/108 to All on Wed Apr 8 16:17:39 2026
I just set up the cron job, and _hopefully_ got the info correct, so _hopefully_ the next automated message you see from me arrives at midnight GMT, with the correct subject and an ANSI file that makes sense.

If those work, I think I might be out of ideas, other than perhaps changing the wording of the daily thing.

So, _if_ the test goes well for a couple of days, might be time to move things over to the Ads/ANSI sub.

And then I can _finally_ have a daily ad for people to complain about. :)

In case people didn't see earlier things, I started this project precisely _because_ people were complaining about daily BBS ads, and I thought, "I could _definitely_ make that worse...". Though, seriously, people seem to be enjoying these things, and, honestly, I'm doing it because I think it's a fun thing to share, rather than actually caring about advertising.

Obviously, it's great if people visit my BBS, but there are so many other BBSs out there that have nearly all the stuff I've put on mine. And callers to my BBS likely would create more work, as I'd like to have things that people want, if they stop by repeatedly.

And I'm fine with my own little corner of the BBSing world being about my own interacting with the larger BBSing world.

Unrelated, I'm trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with my set of US public domain 2026 ANSIs. I'm thinking a script for BBSs to run, either to display one for the day, or as a door, or otherwise something automated and interesting.

If you've read this far and have ideas, feel free to share. And also tell me if you'd be interested in making an ANSI for it, as it would be lovely if it was a group project.

    Hmm. Looks like that failed.

Though the giant mass of dupes that came through are making it a bit harder to be certain.

(I'm also hoping the two aren't related)
