Yes that's not a bad way to go (VMWare, not HyperV though). If you can run
ESXi on a host that you dedicate as a hypervisor that would really rock for you.
Or, KVM with Proxmox is pretty awesome too, and you're not limited to
licensing issues that you would have with VMWare. They really restrict what
you can utilize in a machine like, how many cores, etc., using the free license, and I'm just not a fan of anything Microsoft (HyperV), but those are personal prefs and I know a lot of folks incorporate "The Darkside" in their infrastructure lol.
I think, if you're going to migrate, rather than deploy a fresh VM, you want
to move it as a VMDK instead of what VirtualBox uses as native disk format.
