• Mystic/Pi stability issues

From n2qfd@21:2/150 to All on Mon Feb 26 09:31:50 2024
    Hey all,
Having problems yet with the PI 3B/Mystic install. I found that previously the Mystic install seemed unstable. I'd get hours/days of good events operation then off the rails again. IT would just stop the routine and lock up. If I switched between tabs in MIS it would lock up too.
Decided to save custom work and re install.
Can't get Mystic -l (local) to work.

So, I'm a little confused what's doing here and I'm thinking my Pi is running correctly. I've been using the amateur radio software on it with success, managing my HF radio and JS8Call and FLDigi. Anyone else had some anomalous problems with a Mystic install on Pi?

    Thanks,
    N2QFD

Hmmmm - I ran 2oFB on a Pi 4 for years... are you on stable version a48? How are you executing Mystic? I use ./mis daemon with some crontab's to make sure it loads at boot in case of power issues.

I run server Raspberry Pi OS, no GUI - and things run in daemon mode. How are you trying to doso?

    So,
distro was the most recent release of mystic to download at the website. MYS112a48_p32 at the site. The Pi is a B3+ so I'm using the recommended release from the pi imager for this hardware.
I had run MIS in a non daemon mode from terminal sudo ./mis server and I suppose there could be some difference here. It was typical to get back 0 for error codes once I had it down in settings. I did have some issues with getting it to run poll in general. It has a switch in the events editor for linux to include the ./ this while switched on did not work in the mis poll line for me. I had to have it in the shell command. The switch did work in the echomail line though which I had commented on but seemed to be the only one with such a random issue.
So there was some anomaly in my original, mostly functional install. I had no luck getting it to run at all in the second install and have no idea why!

I am aware having recently helped another fsxNet node that there's a real issue with the 64bit build of Mystic A48. That being running 'mis poll send' does not open an outbound port to poll out to another system... so a major niggle as the BBS can't call out to collect traffic. The BinkP server works OK and can accept incoming traffic.

I've mentioned this to g00r00 so will have to wait for him to debug/comment on it.

What version of Mystic are you running and is it 32 or 64 bit?

    Thanks Avon,
I want to say it was the 32 as I have a Pi3B but I don't recall now as I remember having to monkey about with this as well. I installed the version that seemed appropriate and then needed to backtrack with the initial installation.
Having re-installed the entire thing ground up I went with the 32-bit version as it matched my system. That's where I couldn't get ./mystic to run in any incarnation.
Thanks for the reporting back into the chain. Wish I had more.

Weird; I haven't heard of this from the broader community yet - I did see n2's post, and appreciate your update but... I'm running 64bit a48 on Debian Linux and don't see an issue - that doesn't mean there isn't one, but just posting my use-case.

I can attest to what Paulie says, I am running A48 in Debian 12 and other then a sticky poll.bsy which shuts down all polling until I delete the offending poll.bsy. ( I know it's not a good thing to do and g00r00 frowns on it, but I have a event set up to delete the poll.bsy every hour) Other then that all polling works fine...

You don't have issue w/ the script running in 'production'?? I turned off as g00's recommendation, but if it works longterm.........

The version is suspect is broken for 'mis poll' is ARM AARCH64 Linux (64-bit, Raspberry Pi 4, Orange Pi 5, etc) ... is that the version you are using?

No, if the file does not exist it responds with a 1 error but it works fine..

I didn't use a script, I just do a shell command rm /mystic/semaphore/poll.bsy I know it is wrong to do but if I miss a day checking on the board, and it gets hung up no polling gets done until I check on it.. One thing I noticed which may help g00 in fixing it, is it only happens when an incoming connection with FTN happens as it is trying to poll out.. Thus the reason I moved my time to poll to an obscure time..

Yep as this is what I am running Agency on as well. I have looked recently at moving Agency over to the Pi I set up with a SSD but the current 'mis poll' issue that I think has been uncovered makes it a deal breaker for me until g00r00 takes a look.
