Dude, is this all you post in one line questions?
Some might call it work, but I find, Plastering and Fencing make great board games. :P

That's anonying as shit.
Just so everyone is clear here, exactly how annoying is shit, that you would compare it to this? Personally, I only have a few seconds experience with shit, just before flushing the toilet, so I really don't know.
Some people also think that posting messages just to complain about another person's contribution is 'annoying as shit'.
I never see a good reply, it's always another question like one of my kids.

The post right before yours, a reply to the Favorite Fast Foods
question, is amongst dozens of other replies. There's more messages generated by TM than probably anyone else on all of Fsx.
Yup, exactly this. I'm not sure why people in several nets pick on TM.

Yup, exactly this. I'm not sure why people in several nets pick on TM. At least he's trying to (and does) contribute. We should be encouraging such behaviour, not turning into schoolyard bullies and driving people away from our little hobby.
Its probably more a case of take a deep breath, and live
and let live... If he's not your speed just ignore him. Or throw out
left field answers. ;)
I was being far more subtle about it, but that was my point, too...
I mean, we're kind of doing some discouraging ourselves, right now, are
we not?

If that doesn't work we could always take the Game of Thrones approach
and send Septa Unella after them...
Nice work on that art.
However, I don't think we need to resort to weapons of mass piety...
...at least not yet... (o_-)
Gamgee, I am forced to wonder how much your interaction (among others) with him is affecting his participation. Not to be insulting, but you're not exactly a friendly person, sometimes. And you were pretty hard on TM just before he started his current paradigm (as he was leaving DOVEnet, iirc). Perhaps he feels that this is the only 'safe' way he can contribute?
Meanwhile, as others have said, these one-line questions have sparked good conversations in the past and, I expect, in the future too. Why criticize someone for that?

Well he can be irritating... and there is almost always to many
keyboard warriors around... I haven't been around much, but I sank the boots in early on too... Its probably more a case of take a deep

I am still deciding whether being glad you can be happy with so little,
or pity you because you know no better games.
When I want to play a money-themed board game, Brass is hard to beat. Build industries, build infrastructure to transport raw materials. Manipulate the prices of wares and beat other players by securing cotton sale contracts earlier than them. Win hard and enjoy your new life
without friends.
I don't have alternatives to Clue, though. If you want social deduction games then I think the Resistence is a good choice, maybe.
I used to like Monopoly when I was younger because you could play with money but as an adult, the game is lacking. It's usually obvious before the end w is winning, and when you're winning, people just give up. The game rarely g to completion.
I do like the Doom boardgame, Cluedo (what we call Clue in Australia) is pre good. I don't actually have many boardgames.

The problem with Monopoly is that all the strategy and politics
necessary to win are done very early on, and then players just move
round and round and round for hours no end.
By the first half an hour everybody has all the properties they can get and has traded them with other players if possible. Past that point
there is no more strategy. Just mindlessly wandering on the board.
Also, it has player elimination, which is ok for short games but awful
for long ones. If Francisco is kicked out early, then he may have to
have a long nap while the rest of the players keep at it having fun. If
it can be called fun :-)
I never heard of the Doom boardgame.

I've heard of it, but never played it. Wasn't a DOOM fan on the computer either. :-)
My understanding is it's a lot like the game Imperial Assault - one
versus many. I really like IA, and wish I had people to play a
campaign with...
Very true! My first 'post Monopoly' game was Settlers of Catan (now just cal Catan). There is still an obvious 'leader,' but at least no player eliminati so everyone is in it until the end...
Same with Ticket to Ride! And I think both (especially ticket) is GREAT for a gateway game...

Haha. . . yeah, well my choices were based on games I played as a child
with my family. I don't play too many board games these days. With my
own children we played trivia games, card games and some computer games.

How old are your kids, if they are still kids?
I just had a game of Through the Ages which prolonged itself into 4
am. The guy to my left started a revolution in his own country to
impose Communism and then elected Bill Gates as its Dear Leader.
My country imposed an Islamic Theocracy ruled by Napoleon Bonaparte, built a massive tank army, and trashed his Operas :-)
This does not happen in mainstream games :-P

Sounds like fun. My kids are all adults now. My youngest is 22. But, we
all still like to play games, just have not in a while. Pandemic kind of interrupted things, but I think it's about time to get back to it! :-) I would be surprised though if my kids had the attention span to play that long. LOL. I myself have a hard time playing a game for real long, which
is why I'm not a computer gamer - unless you count solitaire, Bejeweled
and puzzle games like those. :-)

Citadels (very fast, not fiddly components)
Carcassone (fast to set up and play, lots of strategic space in
relation to the low complexity of the game)
Azul (Fast, beautiful presentation, sinple mechanics)
Sagrada (see above)
Thanks, I'll have to check those out!
