• Best terminal software for Windows?

From 2twisty@21:3/166 to All on Thu Mar 31 16:41:00 2022
I am running SyncTERM since it was what was featured in the "Back to BBS" videos.

However, it seems to be lacking a key feature: copy and paste text to and from.

You guys post http links from time to time and SyncTerm won't let me select text with my mouse. Is there some hidden setting I'm not aware of or should I be using a different ssh-enabled terminal software?

let's see, I go to a post on my BBS.

    ALT-B
    highlight text
Escape to get out of scrollback mode

    CTRL-V posts it here.

Bizarre. When I click and drag (either left or right button) nothing is highligted, nor is there any right-click menu option. Keys like CTRL-C and CTRL-V are intercepted by the term software to be forwarded over the connetion.

Are you connecting via SSH or Telnet? Doesn't seem like that should matter, but hey -- ya never know.

Once in awhile I won’t be able to select text but I haven’t been able to figure out why that is.

The majority of the time, the typical putty-style copy/paste works. Highlight text in Syncterm automatically goes to the clipboard, and then paste however the other program likes. In the opposite direction, to paste something from the clipboard into Syncterm just right-click.

That was the answer. You have to use the scrollback to enable it. Seems kinda clunky to have to do that, but at least I can copy links now!

Copy and paste does work. Highlight and leave it, then when you need to paste, right click. Also, ensure you are running the latest build of SyncTERM.

It seems to depend on what version you're using as to how it works. I can
copy quite happily, left click and hold to the end point, it'll
automagically copy anything thats highlighted. Select your insert point and right click to paste it in. Occasionally for reasons unknown can't paste

The other copy alternative was to enter the scrollback buffer and copy from there much the same way.

In any case, ALT-B for Backscroll will make anything copy/pastable in Syncterm, in any version I have.

    Shift-Insert will paste.

I suspect this may have something to do with CTRL-V and CTRL-V being sendable/literal control key sequences, but what do I know.

Still, to copy anything, ALT-B, then SHIFT-Insert to paste.

I believe the reasoning behind that is because Synchronet can react to
clicking on hotspots, so you maybe don't want to activate a hotspot
when you're wanting to copy. Kinda makes sense but kinda not.

Does SyncTerm even have a manual of any kind? I've generally been able to figure things out with SyncTerm (and there are even some SyncTerm features I've discovered by accident), but I don't think I've actually seen a SyncTerm manual.
