Yep, when I lived in the UK, It was called Pepperami. Then an even sipicier one came out called Pepperami Hot, there was even a Peeppera Wide-boy. I'd imagine you can still buy them over there, alas one can get those greasy wonders here in New Zealand...
What brought you from the UK to NZ? What was your "culture shock" experience like moving from one country to the other?
I actually considered (and started) writing a book on the topic, called 'Ten years a kiwi'. Coming from the UK, we drive on the same side of the road,
speak the same language (including using English properly - no color or armor here!), so I knew that from the basics, that the culture shock was going to
be okay.
But getting to know the kiwi way of life was definitely a culture shock. Everyone over here is, well, soft... I mean that in a non derogatory way, but in Scotland, life is harder, and slagging off your mates mum is standard banter. If you do that in NZ, you go to HR and you lose your job in the extremes. People are much more polite. The country is much cleaner and far
less crime. I guess because it's at the bottom of the world, an island,
nowhere near anywhere, it's a bit cut off from anything else, which means the pace of life is slower. This has it's frustrations but also enjoyable
aspects. You have to acclimatise to that and accept thse things otherwise you're always going to be frustrated. Several Scottish expats I know still
moan about 'lazy kiwis'. They need to get over it, it's not going to change! The shopping here absolutely sucks, the fashion is non existent and things
cost twice as much in terms of groceries but hey, that's the cost for living
in paradise!
Other than that, I like it here, I'd never go back to the UK.
