Personally, I think we should all be on UTC. Sure, I'd
start my day at 1AM when the sun is shining, but it sure
would make our global world a lot simpler.

I'm glad the US is finally killing Daylight Savings Time. I've thought that was stupid for years for similar reasons.

Here in Ontario I've only ever heard people say poTAYto or tomEHto,
though I know from Lord of the Rings that Hobbits say tomAWto at

I don't think it's ALL THE WAY done yet, and I imagine there may
be some pushback by individual states. I hope not. I've thought

Recently, the US senate approved a bill to make daylight saving
time permanent. It would still need to be signed by the president
though, and if it gets signed, I heard it would start next year.

I've never heard anyone anywhere use po-Tah-to. But the To-Mah-to To-May-to thing you heard in different places.. its more like the alternatives for france, pants, plants where they can be ants or aunts...
I'd think "poTAYto" and "toMAYto" are the correct way, due to the rules of English vowels. In each word, after the 'a', there's a consonant followed

Giraffe vs Jiraffe is more interesting though, both those letters can produce the same sounds... a soft G like Germ, and a J like Jet... so in this instance either could work... someone just chose G for some reason.
An alternative one that is interesting is Jog, normally considered a hard J but its a soft Y sound in its country of origin, Denmark off hand?
But not 100% sure off top of my head.

We started changing the clocks a long time ago. Now that we can make electric lights, I'd think another option would be that farmers can install lights near their field so they can harvest when it's dark,
rather than make everyone change their clocks.
