The first weeks were painful, and I ended up throwing it in, but
continued until someone else was found, by the end it was starting to
feel doable, and more normal.
Agreed - I did some flexible shifts in my career, and they ended up being
very nice.
In college, I worked in the bookstore's IT department, writing code and managing a midrange computer. I worked a 7:00am to 4:00pm shift, which ended up being great - I'm a morning person, and could get an hour and a half
before people started showing up and making requests, but got home in time
to enjoy the day.
The other shift I did was 11-7, and I got 2 hours at the end running maintenance after the bookstore closed, and no one got off their collective asses to go out until 8pm anyway back then.
Then, I'd get to sleep in, get a run along the ocean in the morning.
Good times.
