there are some TV shows I like to watch that are broadcast over the air, such as local news, and sometimes a game show like Jeopardy, etc. There are also a couple TV channels in my area that play old sitcoms & such
(and by "old", I mean things from the 90s and newer) that I might watch when I'm bored.

We cut the cord several years back as well & set up an antenna as well. We mostly got it because we live somewhat in between Toronto & Buffalo so we get a good mix of Canadian and US stations, all without having to pay monthly for them. What I find interesting is we get CW for free from Buffalo where
that's considered a "premium" station where you have to get a higher priced package to have it included with cable or satellite.

We're not into sports at all, but it is nice to have access to local news for updates on the goings-on in our neck of the woods.

I also have an over-the-air TV antennaconnected to my Plex media server, and it can record TV conent if I want (it can also skip commercials).

This is about the only way I can watch OTA TV anymore (recording it ahead of time & skipping commercials). I've also noticed on some of the retro
stations that the shows are sped up a bit or they sometimes cut out entire scenes. We noticed this with a halloween episode of The Facts of Life where they cut out a whole scene, presumably to make room for another commercial.

Interesting.. I also get CW over the air where I am too. I don't watch it often though. Interesting it's considered a premium channel on some services.

I've noticed something like that with some shows too. There's a channel where I live called Laff, which airs older sitcoms, and a while ago I was watching and recording Home Improvement from it, and later realized they weren't airing the bloopers they normally had after the end of the show.

For American shows, those cuts may have been made back when the show was syndicated. A first-run, half-hour show was usually 22-24 minutes long, I think, leaving 6 minutes for commercials. When those shows are sold into syndication, they usually cut out 2-4 minutes.

MeTV is an interesting case study. Sometimes they show the uncut,
first-run versions of shows like the Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock
Presents while, at other times, you can tell they are showing the shorter syndicated episodes of those same shows.

I first watched Star Trek in the 1970s as a kid in reruns; they'd taken out
a couple of minutes to make room for more commercials.

I remember recently watching the episode "What are little girls made of?" on Netflix, and there's a scene when they are recording Kirk's engrams onto the android copy of him, and he says the same insult he says to Spock about
being a half-breed under his breath while they duplicate him, passing that thought onto the copy - who ends up repeating the line and getting uncharacteristically angry at Spock.

I swore I'd never seen that scene in reruns, ever.
