Hi guys

This week I am changing ISP and with it the static IP's I use (both IPv4 and IPv6) will be changing. To what at this stage I do not know.

The switch over is planned for this Thursday 22 June (New Zealand local time) and may well lead to some connectivity issues across that day while I get connected up, suss the new IPv4/IPv6 details, update DNS records etc.

the 21:1/100 NET 1 HUB, 21:1/10 Usenet+Games HUB, Agency BBS will all be impacted, also impacted will be the Agency News server (news.bbs.nz).

I expect to (all going well) get IPv4 connectivity sorted first but IPv6 may be messy for some days to come, so be warned and if need be get ready to fall back to IPv4 connections during this time.

I'll post updates when able to but this serves as advance warning of the changes to service here in the coming 48 or so hours (as of the time of writing this).

Why change? The ISP I use has hiked prices repeatedly over several years and I have found what I hope to be a much better deal.

Why change? The ISP I use has hiked prices repeatedly over several years and I have found what I hope to be a much better deal.

Same reason I finally got rid of Cable here in my area ($365/MO US - now that was cable channels, phone, and internet) for over 25+ years. Went with Fiber ($60/MO US and I stream anyways because my Cable DVR never seemed to work properly after all the Digital from Analog conversions).

I recently made the switch from cable to fiber due to price increases. My only recommendation is to verify what you paid for is what you get. I had to spend a few days with tech support to actually get the speed range I was paying for.

I knew some cable plans were expensive, but $365/month is one of the most expensive I've ever heard of.. For that price, I'd expect it to be some of the best over-the-top service available, but it still seems ridiculous.

It was and think about allllll those years of paying (nothing else was available in our area and now we have 2 fiber companies on my street and the cable company went to the city council to complain - but they had a monopoly and the city backed all us tax payers.
AND
I had found out that alllllll these years, I thought I was paying for the 1G speeds but could only get 240bps on my game console downloads .. yeah! I wasn't paying for the 1G service, that would have been an additional $110+ per month.

forgot to note:

all those FREE HD channels, weren't free. You had to pay for HD DVR (monthly) + Channel access + taxes and a lot of other items.

I pretty much bought someone a nice home after all those years LOL

AND they blocked eveverything. At least now I can have my ports back and run a firewall on my server in the basement.

That's craptastic.. My ISP is fiber, and their gigabit service is $80/month.

I'm thankful for over-the-air TV and Plex with its DVR functionality.. I bought a Plex lifetime pass a few years ago when it was on sale for $80, and I like what it can do.
