    Hey All

It's 3:11pm here, not long now until we go to the eye clinic to get my
    eye surgery done. It's at 5pm... I'm a bit nervous :)

It's just a minor thing, crosslinking on my right eye and should be done
in half an hour and ready to go straight after..

I've been working on talisman a little bit... just started to add QWK networking, but a bit too nervous to concentrate getting very far with it.

I signed up for a new account on vert, but used the wrong qwk id (ie it's
not the same as my current one..) oops. I don't think it would matter
    though.

Anyway, hopefully can get that done soon. It will have one binary to scan
toss and poll, i plan on using libcurl to do the ftp transfers.

We discovered today that the internet here is only free if you select the public spaces wifi option, not the room option... they charge $5 a day
per device for the room option... we had four devices, so thats about $40
we didn't intend to spend the last couple of days.. oops ! now we know
were using the hotspots on our phone.

We're not very careful to assume anything that doesn't specificly say
free probably costs extra money. hum.. it was a bit sneaky they advertise
free wifi, but don't tell you which option is free.... oh well.

Yesterday we had take away, and being in ipswitch (and the rest of SE queensland you are required to wear masks... while we were waiting for
our order, a couple came in without masks and threw a tantrum about it.
crazy. I really feel bad for the waiter who just has to do what is told
bearing the brunt of that, and wonder how often it happens.

    Well better go...

    Hey All

    How are you going?

It's been pretty hot the last couple of days here.. I've been working on setting up a second BBS. I wanted to set one up on Windows 10 so that I'm testing Talisman more thoroughly on that platform. (Instead of just
    making sure it runs ...)

I wanted something like the inn names, like "The Bird and Baby", "The
Barbed Hook", "The Prancing Pony" etc.. so I came up with "The Grinning
Cat" It's not that exciting, but I used to have a cheeky cat :)

I've got lots of artwork to do.. I'm just taking it slowly, if anyone
wants to do some art, that would be cool :D but i don't expect it.

I setup Motel Kalifornia (One of Gary Crunk's games...) that was fun,
it's a DOS game and I'm running on 64-bit windows. So my favourite DosBox method to the rescue :P

I've set it online, but it's no where near finished...
gcat.happylandbbs.com the ports are 11823 for telnet and 11822 for ssh,
feel free to poke around and see what i'm up to.

    Hi there :)

Changing the subject now as no one needs the angst of this any more :)

How ya doing? I'm locked down at the moment (as are you right?) so been
trying to do some work from home and not eat way too much at the moment.
Golly it's tempting to chow down on a bag of chips right now heh.

I'm poking at BRE and soon GD and FH to remove nodes that are inactive etc. It's a bit like playing whack a mole at times when trying to keep up with
which systems are active or inactive. I'll get there.

I do have a few running old versions of FH and GD but they poll all the time. It makes it a little hard to remove them but I also figure if they are going
to set and forget and run a game that won't know how to deal with a later version of inter-bbs packet I suspect they are better off being removed from the league. Until now I have not touched such nodes but I'm feeling a little more summary today.

It's cold here, sun is shining, we have the fire going.

At 3pm local we find out if our lock down will be extended and I'm picking it will.

More time to play on computers :)

Nope we're not locked down here in Toowoomba, and haven't been since last
year, other parts of queensland have more recently, but I don't think
they are now. NSW is locked down, and we have the police and army at the Queensland / NSW border to try and stop people coming in.

Golly it's tempting to chow down on a bag of chips right now heh.

    Hah. Does sound good.

Yeah, I can imagine it's a bit of a pain to do.

More time to play on computers :)

:) I've been working on a new linux distro again, I've been using devuan
as my main OS for a bit (with the requirements of Win 11, it's not really something I want, or can really afford). I wanted something like devuan
but a bit more uptodate and using RPM instead of dpkg.

I've got the base system working, now I need to build the base system on
the base system. Then fixing bugs in my spec files.

Then adding more software... at this stage it's just learning, and
probably wont be useful for my every day computer, due to lack of
multilib (but once I get everything else working I might try and add
multilib) (multilib is 32-bit support on 64-bit host - which I use for
    steam and games :)

Lots to do I guess. I'm just slowly plugging away at it with sessions of
Lord of the Rings Online between.

Ah OK I confess without looking at a map I tend to loose track of who is
where in Australia. Our government has just extended the three day lockdown
out to seven days for all of the country. The area in the North Island (Auckland and Coromandel) was already looking at a seven day period at the highest level of lockdown. The rest of us now know (unsurprisingly) that
we're facing the same period of time now. Today they found cases of Delta in Wellington but all linked back to a known location of interest in Auckland so that's good.

    Hah. Does sound good.

I'm making pizza for dinner. Yum

Yeah, I can imagine it's a bit of a pain to do.

Done BRE but lagging a bit at sorting the others will keep at it tonight. If
I don't end up watching a movie instead.

LOR .. that's a sore point for our local creative industry as Amazon

I've been thinking about creating a slackware 14.2 based OS for raspberry ip tricorder. there is currently projects on line for DIY PiCorder projects. i
was looking over the "picorderOS" which is python modules that gives the
screen readout the "LCARS" next gen look. it seems to be sitting ontop of raspberrian. i was thinging of seeing if i could compile a linux kernel to be extremely lightweight having only the device modules for the device, and arm arch with a focus on speed and low power consumption. i was thinking of using slackware, as the code base for 14.2 is rock solid. i was thinking originally of having the rest of the OS for slackware installed, but i started thinking maybe having busybox for a bash replacement which could run on lower system resources... this is just an idea i have been thinking about. this is a slackware project that helps to put it on an RPi https://sarpi.penthux.net/

Never heard of this procedure before. I hope everything went well. What I read on Wikipedia / the net it is one of the less invasive procedures. I think my biggest issue would be to remember not rubbing my eyes the days after.

Argh, now I'm reading that eye rubbing might increase my risks of developing keratoconus...

It did thanks, it wasn't what I expected though, you can't really call it surgery, all it was was 15-30 minutes with drops every 2 minutes, then
they clipped my eye open and shone a uv light in it for 5 minutes.

I had expected them to scrape the cornea etc, but apparently they have a
new chemical that they don't need to do that anymore.

it's supposed to hurt after the anesthsia wears off, but that hasn't
    happened yet...

I guess we don't go many places, so good to know if we ever go some where

Yep, didn't turn out to be nearly as bad as I thought it would be, and I
