My opinion is that is completely unacceptable in any network that values

No that's not necessary. I've made my point of view clear. If folks want to have a ding dong session about pro vs anti vax stuff and how [insert country name] government/political party is not doing things right etc. etc. they can take it to an othernet.

I read some folks want to have that discussion and they are more than welcome to somewhere other than fsxNet.

    For the purpose of clarity.

I don't object to having Covid-19 being discussed in a factual manner as a subject in fsxNet.

The world is united in having to deal with a pandemic taking many lives and causing a lot of disruption to peoples way of living.

That said, pro anti-vax / vax conspiracy / anti govt vax sentiments / discussions are unwelcome here. By all means if you feel strongly about such things discuss them, just don't do here it in fsxNet.

The original post that started the latest thread in this echo pointed to a Canadian anti-vax / anti Canadian govt website. Such posts immediately fall into the politics pot and as such are not welcome in fsxNet.

There's a reason why we opted to keep political discussions out of fsxNet and that's because in the past it's been patiently clear that some past authors have been unable to discuss differing points of view civilly and
respectfully, instead descending into political ideologies / conspiracies.

People active in fsxNet would far rather have a place devoid of such divisive discord. I certainly do.

As this stuff runs on Fidonet technology it is possible that nodes distribute echos that are not in the official echo list. Just create an echo (let's call it FREE_SPEECH_XTENSION) and setup links between the people/nodes that have a need to talk about "all the stuff that cant be discussed here".

If FSXNet had been a thing some centuries ago, maybe we would be talking about banning people for defending that tobacco is not good for your health.

Not so long ago, the notion that tobacco was good for health was a scientific fact. Going against such notion was an eccentricity. If discussing anti-tobacco ideas had been banned back in the day, we would all be smoking and getting cancer.

LOL! Actually, the Vax played a major role in the tcp/ip stack for the PC. If you don't know the story or anyone wishes to hear it let me know and I'll post it.

No that's not necessary. I've made my point of view clear. If folks
want to have a ding dong session about pro vs anti vax stuff and how [insert country name] government/political party is not doing things
right etc. etc. they can take it to an othernet.

I read some folks want to have that discussion and they are more than welcome to somewhere other than fsxNet.

They are welcome to do so in FIDO Politics.

As this stuff runs on Fidonet technology it is possible that nodes distribute echos that are not in the official echo list. Just create an echo (let's call it FREE_SPEECH_XTENSION) and setup links between the people/nodes that have a need to talk about "all the stuff that cant be discussed here".

FIDO already has a CONSPIRACY echo and, I think, at least one other echo
that claims to be free speech. Unless we are talking folks who don't want
to carry FIDO because they don't want to be exposed to such (which would be ironic), folks should already have places to talk about such things.

It's just as much fun if not moreso USING some of the old technologies. Almost wish some of the old cell networks were still available for connectivity so
my analog bag phone would still work. That thing had 3x the coverage today's mini tablets (phones) have!

I have heard somebody got flagged once for asking if some store had black cartridges for an HP printer.

In Spanish, HP is often used as an abreviation for "Hijo de Puta," which could be translated as "Son of a Bitch." The message that got flagged was something like "Estoy buscando cartuchos HP Negro 350XL." (I am looking for Black HP 350 XL cartridges). I think the algorithm read "HP Negro" and interpretated it as "Hijo de Puta Negro", or "Black Son of a Bitch."

And this is yet another reason why nobody should touch Facebook with a 10 feet long pole.

Their division for enterprise network solutions (whatever it is called this year) is ok afaik.
