    Hi All

Sunday today, I'm sitting here having a beer and relaxing. Yesterday was setting up a new TV for my father in law, the TV was the easy part, the flatpack tv stand was a pain in the bum.

Anyway it all came together in the end. Today lots of washing of clothes
was done, we've had rain all week, so it built up and we had tonnes of it.

Thinking I'm going to have to set up Talisman on Windows 10 as it's
looking like things are not working as they should there. Previously I
just test if it works and I can log in, but most of my actual testing is
just done with my linux based installs.

I've been neglecting BBSing a bit. Just been doing other things. Set up a minetest server which I've been playing on by myself. It's fun, I'm not
sure if I'll open it up, I thought about making it for friends only, but
I don't think I have any friends who play minetest.

Also had been playing the lord of the rings online a bit, but over did it
a bit, and haven't really felt like logging in the past week.

    Anyway, hope everyone's well.

    Andrew

    Hi All

    Hey there.

Sunday today, I'm sitting here having a beer and relaxing. Yesterday was setting up a new TV for my father in law, the TV was the easy part, the flatpack tv stand was a pain in the bum.

Heh. I just did some work on my daughters PC. Trying to keep on top of antivirus stuff and ensure it's running OK, and it is, phew.

Anyway it all came together in the end. Today lots of washing of clothes was done, we've had rain all week, so it built up and we had tonnes of
    it.

We've also had a wet summer so far. Today was not bad, cloudy with some heat/sun which was welcome. We went to the beach for a walk along the
shoreline and saw a seal in the water.

Thinking I'm going to have to set up Talisman on Windows 10 as it's looking like things are not working as they should there. Previously I just test if it works and I can log in, but most of my actual testing is just done with my linux based installs.

I'm trying to advance my Linux plans and working on building Husky software
    at the moment.

I've been neglecting BBSing a bit. Just been doing other things. Set up a minetest server which I've been playing on by myself. It's fun, I'm not sure if I'll open it up, I thought about making it for friends only, but
I don't think I have any friends who play minetest.

I don't know what it is, I'm guessing a game like Minecraft?

Also had been playing the lord of the rings online a bit, but over did it a bit, and haven't really felt like logging in the past week.

I've been more active this week and will probably do a bit over the coming week. Have been on holiday and have this week to go before heading back to
    work next week.

Yeah, very similar, except it's not so much built to be a complete game,
rather an engine. There are several "games" people have made that run on
    it, and hundreds of mods.

My server has no monsters or animals, but lots of farming, trains,
    technic stuff (like powerlines etc).

I find it relaxing building stuff - but not creative, so you have to get
the matierials, just no monsters that destroy everything.

I've been more active this week and will probably do a bit over the
    coming
week. Have been on holiday and have this week to go before heading

Cool. Sounds good. Maybe I'll get stuck into this Windows BBS tomorrow,
I've been running happynet again, though it's been up and down a little
with power outages / thunderstorms etc. So I'll set it up with that and
see if I can figure out what's going on with Postie.

I sent another message, set up an XMPP server. A long time ago in my
first BBS internode chat was done over XMPP. I had an account for each
node, a chatroom etc, and a sysop account friends with all the nodes, so
I could chat to nodes with me IM client.

Do you think you'll do any videos this week? :P

That kinda sounds like Minecraft in that folks enjoy building stuff there too.

I hope to one day play with that, right now I am starting along struggle

Heh, probably not, but my wife will hear me grumble about config files a lot this week I expect :)

Cool. I'm pretty pleased that postie seems to be running pretty well on HappyLand v2.0.

I'm still using HPT on the talisman "demo" bbs, but reckon I probably
    could switch now if needed.

It's just not working correctly on windows / for other people (I think on windows).

That PR I did for HPT is still sitting there, I think they are just
ignoring it... I couldn't convince them there is a bug, because sometimes
it works (if you have carbon copies set up at all it will work, if not it fails) but whatever... people like to pretend they're infailable who am I
    to argue... lol

Glad to hear you are doing well, agree on setting up a TV stand can be a pain, I had to do it a few months ago when we had ours finally die at 15 years, and it was much harder than I remember (and instructions don't seem to be written anymore, just small cartoons that make no sense now)

I like to play Cities Skylines, from steam. It's basically a modern version of Simcity, but way more customizable. It's fun to plan out a city and then fill it in, and watch the dumb cars do dumb things and try to fix the roads so the garbage trucks can get thru. There are tons of mods for it.

The only problem is when I play I zone out and suddenly 3 hours have passed.

My daughter went into the ER last night with gastrointestinal issues. She tested negative for Covid and we're waiting for some tests to come back to
see what the next steps are.

My wife described in great detail the precautions they had to go through - they weren't allowed into the hospital without a COVID test. There was a tented waiting area outside in 5c weather, with a couple of portable
heaters. The staff looked tired and fried, talking about what they were dealing with in earshot of the other patients. The doctors were wearing full-face positive pressure mask systems. Patients weren't allowed to take
off their masks, have a drink or leave the ER area. I came by with clothes
and snacks and my wife had to be escorted to the door by staff in order to
    be let back in.

My wife was concerned that any other time they would have kept her overnight in the ER, but I'm sure they needed the bed - and we didn't want to be there any longer than possible. They got home around 1:30am.

My daughter is resting and panicking about missing a science fair assignment due tomorrow. We told her not to worry, we'll make it happen.

    Yes.

Though there is one HUGH difference, world size.

Minecraft's default world size is 30,000 by 256 by 30,000 "blocks".

Where as Minetest's default world size is ... if I remember it correctly, some where around 300,000 by around 30,000 by 300,000 "blocks". (So really you get a lot more space to build in) Though I only saw a glimps of the world size way back at least a few months.

However Minetest is essentially a base platform... then you need to add plugins to the client (either in-game or download them yourself) to make it actually playable.

    Take Care,
    Beanzilla

I am not a minecraft nerd but it sounds to me that size does not make a great difference there. You get playgrounds that are much bigger than you will manage to explore
and use up in both cases.

Hey, I really enjoy Minecraft... and I used to play some of Minetest
    myself.

So if you count me a friend... then you have at least 1. :D

Yeah way back when bugz helped me make a private Minecraft server...
and I think that's why I also like Minetest, especially the server
    part.

Well, if you'd like to have a go at my minetest server (I'm not sure how
well it will work...) I just opened up the port, but I have a whitelist,
so if you want to let me know what username you will use I can add it,
and then send you the server details.

I took the day yesterday to drive to my family's cabin near Lake Tahoe and winterize it - shut off the water, add antifreeze to the drain traps, store all of the outside furniture under the eaves, set up the snow stakes and so on.

Since our early summer weekend up there that was interrupted by dozens of flying ants looking for a new colony, the spiders came in, ate all the ants, then they died - leaving cobwebs everywhere.

We had one dead mouse in the basement, they're drawn to the hot water heater drain bucket. Found a loose foundation vent cover, looked like they chewed through it again.

Weather was comfortable, there were quite a few people kayaking on the
nearby lake. I'd forgotten it's Columbus Day/Indigineous people's day today, making one last long weekend before a hopefully rainy winter.

So fortunate that I live in a place where I can live on the coast, get in my car, and in 4 hours be at 7000 feet in the mountains - and that my Prius, while absolute garbage on some of the gravel roads up there[1], got 61 mpg
    on the downhill trip. :)

    Hi All

see what the next steps are.

Step 4, the step that is mind numbing boring..

Except for shirts (which are easy to hang up - one movement -
and no need to iron if you don't wait too long after the drying)
and pants which are three easy folds, I just keep things in
    piles.

    ;)

Then when I need something, I just reach into the pile! LOL I
keep most stuff in another set of low-design laundry baskets.

I'm not a folder and ironer either.

Then, do the dishes *first* and then do step [4]. ;)

I also crank up my hifi with some favourite music when I need to
do sock-pairing which can be extremely boring for me!

I've been neglecting BBSing a bit. Just been doing other things. Set up a minetest server which I've been playing on by myself. It's fun, I'm not sure if I'll open it up, I thought about making it for friends only, but I don't think I have any friends who play minetest.

Hey, I really enjoy Minecraft... and I used to play some of Minetest myself.

So if you count me a friend... then you have at least 1. :D

Yeah way back when bugz helped me make a private Minecraft server... and I think that's why I also like Minetest, especially the server part.

    Take Care,
    Beanzilla

I don't know what it is, I'm guessing a game like Minecraft?

That may be the case for N,S,W,E but for depth, you get to the bottom of
    the minecraft world very quickly.

Well, if you'd like to have a go at my minetest server (I'm not sure how
well it will work...) I just opened up the port, but I have a whitelist,
so if you want to let me know what username you will use I can add it,
and then send you the server details.

What version of Minetest is the server?

It's saying version 0.4.16 is not supported.
