I've been seeing more and more communites on the web going back to offering some sort of NNTP / Newsserver - heck, even my own BBS has
the ability to enable one - and it seems like a very interesting protocol, but I'm having a hard time finding a GUI based news-reader thats not "binary-centric", meaning specialized for finding files on Usenet, instead of reading news.

Fort‚ Agent -> the best, but paid (has cracked on torrents)
MesNews -> very good and free
    Xnews
    XanaNews
OpenXP -> very good but text, non graphical

Avon provides usenet as ftn to fsxnet members. It requires a bit of setup.

Have a look at fsx-use.txt in the infopack.

Nick Andre also offers a usenet feed if you have a Fidonet connection.
Check out his ad in the OTHERNETS echo, here's a snippit of that post:

Looking for a reliable feed for Usenet groups in Fido *.PKT format? With full read/write access, Areafix automation and regular mail delivery?

Darkrealms has been providing Usenet feeds since 1994. In fact it is one of the reasons many systems in Fido and "Other nets" choose our system their Usenet needs. It is 100% automated - no need to bug a Sysop to
add or remove groups. Mail is polled several times a day with optional spam filtering. No complicated scripts, no headaches, it "just works".

Netmail me at 1:229/426 for more information.

I don't know, maybe it is only the English spam they are good at blocking.

I remember reporting flooders in Spanish newsgroups and it was no use. Even if you forwarded translated copies of the flkooding messages (which took more work from me that was reasonable to pour in such thing) the issue would remain unresolved. Nowadays most Spanish groups I frequented 5 years ago lay in ruins, populated only by flooders and crossposters.
