Just a quick note to all reading this for taking the time to post /
read stuff in fsxNet message bases. It's nice to have your company
here and I appreciate you have many choices to post and share stuff,
so thanks for making fsx one of those spots. :)
It's nice to see the new echos getting good use. General seems a bit quieter, but there is definitly more variety of conversation since you
add them, so I think it was a good call :)
There does seem to be a variety of places to post, but then there always was.. networks come and go all the time, i remember being on gatornet
back before fsxnet came around, i think that's gone now.
It's good when nets stick around, and it's one thing to stick around
quiet another thing to remain relevant and used. I think you can be proud of that.
True true, I'm not across as many of them as perhaps I should be but
to be honest it's enough to keep on top of things in this network at
times :)

I'm on a few, tqwnet, retronet, wwivnet, dovenet and of course happynet.[...]
dovenet, is the longest running net i carry, and i've only just set it up very recently. I used to follow it more, and if your into synchronet or extreme right-wing politics then that is the net for you. (I'm not really into either, but I like synchronet and digital man is a really nice guy
so I like to read his posts.)
You make it look like Dovenet is the Gab of the othernets and I don't think that is fair.
There are about 2 right-wingers that are noisy, which is about the same number of left-wingers that are noisy over there.
Dovenet also has awesome movie reviews from time to time.

What does Gab mean?
I just would shamelessly like to add one:
WeedNet, a relatively new network for the friends of Cannabis :)
Traffic is pretty low at the moment.
(as I'm the FTN hub of this FTN+QWK network, I had to add it *g*)

I spotted a post from him on another system in Fido, not
sure of the date now ... but he's been very quiet for some

That may not be true either now that I re-read it. I don't know whichWWIVnet was basically dead for 10 years until me and Eli started to revive it in 2011.
one
is older, dovenet or wwivnet - but now I think about it it's probably wwivnet.

Hehe, I did know about weednet, but have never actually read any posts on it. Weed isn't legal here, and even if it was, i'm really not interested
in it, so can't write an opinion on it :)

i know i usually frequent a small set of message bases, early in the morning when i start work. (i work from home and spend 8 hours a day on
my BBS. the best part about working from home) the rest of the time on
my BBS i am in MRC chat :-) hanging out with MeatLotion and the gang.
Thanks for having me!

fsxNet is a very friendly and useful FTN! I'm glad you created it for our usage. I hope I contribute to the conversations in a positive way - I do try at least. Sometimes we tend to disagree with each other but there's
no hate that spawns from it we just tend to agree to disagree and move
on which makes fxsNet a wonderful net to be a part of.

It isn't legal here, either (yet, maybe that will change soon).
But I thought it is worth supporting and I'm using it to learn
something about running a FTN using Synchronet.
At the moment trying to get Agency working correctly with Linux is
keeping me occupied too. I'm learning a lot about Linux permissions
and other stuff with the help of others (and for which I am very appreciative for their help).
Today it's Saturday here, I've been out shopping this morning and now
just spending 30-40 mins reading echomail and responding as/when I
want :)
I've not been (really ever) that active in MRC/IRC style chats. I
think I prefer to be able to read and post stuff in this format so I
can come back to it when I want / have spare time. Doing a real-time 'appointment based' thing has not really worked for me / appealed as
much. I do understand it appeals to others though :)

Thanks for the feedback. And again, thanks to you (and others) for
taking the time to post.
Yes, for the most part things/message roll along OK in the networks.
There have been past issues when people got into country politics and
that never ends well, so I opted to request that that subject be
discussed in othernets and not fsxNet. Doing so seems to have negated a fair chunk of dramas.
There are the odd occasions where a (shall we say) 'strong personality' comes along and just wants to debate for the sake of debating or is not fussed about being kind or respectful. What's interesting in those
cases is that the community tends to self moderate things pretty well
and souls spoiling for a debate are usually ignored and/or called out
for poor behavior and then tend to go elsewhere.
I've learned that you can't keep everyone happy all the time, that
people come to these message areas (and othernets) with their own
version of what is right/wrong good/bad in terms to ways to conduct themselves and engage with others.
It can be hard at times seeing folks you have had long periods of correspondence with and congenial dealings with either fall into some
text heated (and ultimately futile) debate with someone else. Then opt
to leave and promulgate a view that the entire message network is no
good, full of haters etc. when (and this just my point of view) it's clearly not the case nor will any amount of saying it is and repeating such falsehoods make it so.
It's sort of like going to school, having a good time, making a bunch
of friends from several classrooms, then having a disagreement with 3-6 classmates about some subject, deciding you hate this school and the
whole school is bad, leaving, then saying how bad that school was to anyone who will listen.
All of which is to say, I've seen that end of the spectrum of behavior
and I've also seen the other end as well with a lot of kindness and
good intent.. while in the middle there's (mostly) agreements and when not, a good natured effort to either see the others point of view and
then agree (mutually) to not agree and move on to other stuff both
parties can chat about.
I'd better stop, I seem to have written a novel. :)

I've tried with IRC, and very occasionaly log in to MRC, but timezones
are a big issue with the real time chat. The only solution was to idle in an irc client, but then it really becomes more like echomail anyway. MRC is always inactive when I try it, probably because everyone's asleep, or maybe they see my handle and all hide. :)
Sure, but would you consider it a network that has been running since1987-2002/2003 then 2011-present.
2011, or an older one that has just been dormant for 10 years?
It was like trying to bring back the band. It may not be the 1600 nodes of yore, its more like 45, but better than none.WWIVnet was basically dead for 10 years until me and Eli started to revive it in 2011.
..and kudos to you both for doing so :)

I think that's kind of the story of BBSing at the moment, but at least there's some activity for the hobby in recent years :)Some of us are running it like a point node, but I hope to welcome people shortly.
I think I am on my BBS reading etc. most days too. I find I have days where I do give myself some time off BBSing so I can enjoy it more when
I come back to it. I think it's also because I have admin stuff that I feel I need to do on a semi regular basis (removing nodes, welcoming new ones and passing to other NETs to get set up etc.)

You make it look like Dovenet is the Gab of the othernets and I don't think that is fair.
The last real messages that I see are on dovenet and fsxnet in
July.
It *does* seem strange that he would drop off the radar so
abruptly.

I dunno. There's a convicted sex offender over there
who keeps talking about pedophiles in the white house
and other weird conspiracy nonsense like that. It
seems very strange.
