I think this is true. And while it's also true Collins's voice is
fragile now, it's not anything like out-of-tune or unmusical. In fact,

I recall going to see them not long before they stopped touring. Marie's voice was impacted by the stoke she had suffered. She sang in tune but in a lower key. It sounded so strange..

Of course, sometimes artists realized they had to do that in their prime. Rush/Geddy Lee was already taking 2112 a step down on its first tour. ELP also did the same with part of Karn Evil 9. They started in a lower key, and then did a key change back to the original before the parts people would have known from the single edit (the "Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends" part).

A rock tour isn't the easiest thing on the voice!

Hearing Geddy Lee trying to hit the highs in "Tom Sawyer" later in their career was tough to listen to - but their musicianship was always amazing

    I miss Neil Peart.

As far as the musicianship went, it was top-notch, if not better, than in their prime years. Neil always worked on technique, and worked with teachers even in later years. When your drummer can still carry the rhythm and power, everything else has a tendency to fall into place (not that there was ever a threat of Geddy or Alex not being able to keep up, mind you).

Having said that, Geddy really struggled towards the end. Seeing them live in arenas blunted the edges, since it's so loud and there's so much echo, but hearing the recordings (especially boots) could make you cringe a little. Again though, it's also the strain of touring, and even placement of the song in the set. "Tom Sawyer" was often very late in the set, if not in the encore. That certainly never helped matters!
