For my wife's and my anniversary, she bought me a bottle of "Writers'
Tears", an Irish whisky to put alongside my increasingly Islay-heavy
scotch whisky connection.
It's an irish whisky aged in American bourbon barrels and French
cognac barrels. It ends up being a nice, sweet drink with a caramel
nose (to me, at least) and a smooth finish.

If you haven't, you should try the Balvenie. I'm quite partial to the
14 year Caribbean cask and the 21 year port wood.

It's been years. Thanks for the recommendation! I'm definitely ready
for a vacation from Peaty. :)

I don't like peaty at all. These are rather smooth Speyside whiskys. If you're after a slightly cheaper 21 year then I can highly recommend the Aberfeldy.
