I've been babysitting servers in a mostly-empty office since March - we're in a temporary space, and the portable AC unit needs to have the water tank emptied once a week or so.

I'm getting the new office ready, and we're looking at hoteling at 25% capacity when we get the green light. People are going to be assigned temporary desks and we're using bins for personal belongings. Walk in, find your desk, wipe it down, grab your bin, go to work. At the end of the day, collect your things, wipe the desk down, and go home.

The bins are OK, but I'll still need to bring things back and forth to the office for the days I'm working from home.

I liked having a desk with my "stuff" there, and spent this weekend upgrading my messenger bag. I'll need to bring a charger and cables, switch to a backpack with a water bottle/travel mug pocket, and look for a bag-friendly set of noise-isolating headphones with a decent mike.

I'm dubious, the only thing I see us doing better in an office environment than working remotely is face-to-face meetings and brain storming, and I certainly don't want to be in an enclosed space with a couple of people, at least for some time.

The office park has lots of outdoor space, I could see using some of that to our benefit when the weather holds out.

A lot of space planners are loathe to design a space with the proper
amount of desks for the number of people allowed. They're rather
design for full capacity and block out unusable spaces.

With the guarantee of flexible work-from-home arrangements, hoteling
is the only way to practically do it without leaving desks unused 3
days a week. Which equals $$$ spent on real estate that could go
elsewhere.

I used to walk 30 minutes and bring a lunch back to my desk for the
remainder of my lunch break. I miss that.
