  • Interesting times...Mk III

    How old was the battery? I had an OEM battery that lasted nearly
    10 years! And.. we're taling about cold -30C winters.

    Well according to the battery, only about 3 years... I'm not completely on board with the charging system though, bad voltage regulator or by design I'm not sure. I'm guessing it started to fail, and then it was over volted for what it could hold, and cooked itself.

    If the car is trying to charge the battery, its pushing near 15v, which while it would charge the battery is high enough to have it gassing and boiling off electrolyte. Charged it looks a bit more normal and drops back to 13.5v.
