of winter will be!

As the Groundhog Day Phil-osophy goes, if the groundhog sees his
shadow on the ground, the United States can expect six more weeks of
winter all around. If he decides to keep his head held high, then an
early spring will apply.

Around 7:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Phil saw his shadow and whispered the
fate of our nation’s winter in “groundhogese" to his Inner Circle
at Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania. Over the course of his
meteorological career, the marmot predicted an extended winter around
85 percent of the time.

Our local groundhog (Wiarton Willie) predicted an early spring, but clearly he's lying through his buck teeth! ;)

Our local Berkeley 'ghog, Stoney Stevie, got so baked last night he never
even made it outside his little burrow. There was a last-minute attempt to dress up a stray cat in a top-hat and monocle that ended with deep
scratches for the handlers that required medical attention. Berkeley
residents concluded that we would again, indeed, have another few weeks
of ~60 F "winter" weather, and also -- several complaints were logged
with BPD around animal cruelty; protesting goverment-sponsored
superstitions; alarm around generational entitlement; class strggle;
workers' rights; and a 6 hour publi debate around the complete lack of diversity/representation of other indiginous weather-forecasting animals,
such as the San Francisco Garter Snake. Said one Berkeley resident:
"but seriously, what's that groundhog smoking? And can I get some?"

That is one possibility. I was imagining some sort of gangland style hit,
put out by Phil because this rival was edging in on his turf.
