  • 2023/2024 Eclipse in the USA

    Came across a small article today in a magazine I was reading about the upcoming 2023 and 2024 eclipses. Apparently here in the USA these will be the last eclipses viewable in the US for 15+ years!

    I was just blown away by the beauty of the 2017 eclipse - it was something
    that to this day, there has been nothing so amazing in the sky as that few minutes! Even how nature changed - in subtle ways - was cool. Like wind picking up, nocturnal creatures starting to stir in the middle of the day, the cool and weird shapes shadows made on the ground.

    I encourage anyone who has an opportunity to view the 2023 of 2024 eclipse to try and see it - you certainly won't be dissapointed.

    I was in one of the areas where it was supposed to last the longest, yet it seemed like it went by so fast! I was at a house by a farm so when the
    eclipse started, you could really hear the crickets start up! I was with a
    lot of people, many older than I who, even though they knew what it was
    still seemed a little "convinced" that the apocalypse might be upon us.
    The persons younger than I that were in the crowd seemed to enjoy it but,
    if they saw it as a spiritual event, they were a lot more quiet about it. :)

    The weather was super hot that day, but also more than clear enough for viewing.

    IIRC, there is an area in Southern Illinois that one of these eclipses is
    going to cross that was also a hot spot for the 2017 eclipse. Anyone who
    lives in that area is going to get a second shot at seeing it.

    Carbondale, Illinois is the town - yes, they get a double-treat!

    From what I've seen so far, the 2024 total eclipse should last about 1.5 - 2.0 minutes longer than the 2017 one.
