From poindexter FORTRAN@21:4/122 to All on Mon Jan 30 18:25:38 2023

I flew in Sunday night to Dallas/Ft. Worth, drove to Abilene. Spending the week here as a jumping off point to upgrading 3 solar farm's server systems.

Was not expecting 25 degrees fahrenheit/sub-zero celsius temperatures (I'm too cold to do the conversion in my head, waiting for the hotel room to warm up...)

    Stay warm, my friends.

Yikes, best of luck! That sounds miserable. I always overpack and I travel basically every week...but I've had my share of canceled flights, bad weather, etc., and now just prepare for everything. Hopefully you can hit a walmart and get some flannels or something.

Moved from Detroit in 1981. I do remember what it was like. My wife and I used to
play co-ed football in the winters. Guys would tackle the guys, touch for the girls. Lots
    of fun!

Living in Detroit, we would play on Sundays during football season. After playing, we
would get White Castles, beer and pop and go to someone's house to watch the Lions
    lose :)

We would layer our clothing; long johns, then long-sleeve shirt, spring jacket and then
winter coat. After we started playing, we would start stripping until we only had the
    long-sleeve shirt.

This days are definitely over for us. Now it's pickleball year round.

You're quite mistaken on that. Temps in the 60's (and well below that),
*ARE* normal in Florida this time of year. Where I live in the Florida panhandle, it is completely normal to have 6-10 nights per winter where
the temp gets below freezing. During Dec/Jan/Feb it is normal to have overnight lows in the 30's/40's, and daytime highs only in the 50's.
Back during the week of Christmas recently, we had a week where the
overnight temps were in the TEENS several times, and low 20's. Again, absolutely normal.

I moved to Pennsylvania and have not seen a 'Taco Time' since I left Washington. Not a Taco Bell, but a Taco Time. I had to visit that
as well when I was there. Still have Mexi-Fries and they are good.

I'm in Oregon, and there are a few Taco Time locations in my area. I'd heard Taco Time originated in Eugene, Oregon - probably why it's a northwest US chain. I'm a little surprised there aren't more of them though.

Hahaha! Yes, those things seem to be something that people either love
or hate... Not much middle ground on that. :-)

You know it's funny...my wife and I love "the finer things" but I
also love cheap objectively gross food as well. I'll never turn
down Kraft mac n cheese or Chef Boyardee ravioli. I love a good,
legit Mexican burrito with all the fixins but will also devour
    Taco Bell.

I could not agree more! I love those things too. Hahaha, I like to add sliced-up hotdogs to my Kraft mac-n-cheese. ;-)

Maybe I'm just a basic bitch at the end of the day lol.

    Maybe we all are? LOL

When I was deployed a number of times, fast food was a luxury,
it's funny how we think of things in certain context.

I've been there too! (28 years USN). A similar thing I learned during
those years is that it's very cool to see (most of) the world, but
coming home always made me realize there's no better place to be
    than..... home.

I am not a big fan of the mac n cheese but I will eat it. The other
two guilty pleasures you mention are certainly on my list. So glad
the Mexican Pizza is back, even if it is not as good as it used to
    be. :)

I'd heard Taco Time originated in Eugene, Oregon - probably why
    it's a northwest US chain. I'm a little surprised there aren't
    more of them though.

When I first moved out of Louisville in 1997, some of the smaller
towns didn't have Taco Bell yet. We had a couple of Taco John's
here. Those supposedly originated from Wyoming or somewhere in that
area. At any rate, their food was better than Taco Bell but also a
    little more expensive.

At some point around 2000, we got our first Taco Bell. It was a
kiosk inside a local Super America (now Speedway) gas station. A few
years later, we got a couple of stand alone Taco Bells, one on each
side of town near the interstate. Between their cheaper prices, and
multiple local Mexican restaurants (at least three of which are
really good and not too expensive), Taco John's eventually left the
    city.

That is too bad as I miss their Potato O'les, taco burgers, and a
couple of other things they had that Taco Bell doesn't. They were
both not close enough to the interstate to get any passerby traffic.

Oh man speaking my language here. And once in a while a bit of ketchup...hopefully that's not going too far. hehe

Some of us try real hard to pretend not to be, but delicious is delicious which is why certain foods are so successful!

So I've never actually had the Mexican pizza, but an Indian friend of mine said his family goes nuts for it. Apparently it's a big deal for people of Indian descent, who knows why? Maybe just one of those things. Like how in Japan, I think, people go to KFC for Christmas. Just a tradition at this point.

I had to go under general anesthesia once and was warned that I might be constipated following the procedure and my solution for this was to ask

Just a sack? Should have at least taken in the Case. Then you could truly clear the pipes out.
