Hiya all. I found 6 tapes from my old BBS and data and I want to restore the data from them. They are from 1992-1997 low density.
I remember backing up the data with colorado backup software. Anybody
know if there is some modern tapedrive which can be used with USB to restore them?

Ooh jeesh that's a great find. Sadly I don't know of any such software, bu wish you good luck. I'm interested to know what you find on them =)
Fingers crossed..
10 years ago, I went through that same exercise and couldn't get my Colora Backup software to run on windows. Part of it was the operating system. T other was getting windows to recognize the tape drive. I gave up. I'll f this hoping someone can help!
AFAIK there are no modern USB QIC-80 / DC-2120 drives. You have to find an one. They usually connect to the floppy controller or parallel port. And t get some old software for reading it.
Or maybe you find someone or a retro computer club in your city that still a working drive.

Yeah no luck so far. I will definately add all files (if releases) to this board. And expect a filelist.txt somewhere.

I have an original colorado internal (trakker 250) tape drive
that I never unwrapped.
So.. you have a working drive, but the software is not
cooperating?

Not going into that ;). I am now googling companies who restore old
tapes. Only found one in US at the moment, quite far from EU. But if
thats the only one I will contact them.
Or maybe I should donate them to some channel who does retro 486 hardware/software.
To be continued.

No drive, no software, with no luck so far I meant finding
a solution ;).

I may have a tape drive that will read them. I'll have to get it out to c the model. I've not actually used it, but the rubber rollers still appear rubber.. not mush. Choice of either floppy interface or the ISA card. Of hand I think its a TRAVAN..
Well If this was me I would make a virtual Machine install the OS that the software likes and pull the files out afterwards.
Most Hypervisors have the ability to allow pass through hardware so it sho be possible to do.
I also would like to see what you come up with
If they are Qwik80 T1000 compatible, send them to me and I'll
recover and send you the files.

But the tapes WERE generated by a Colorado Trakker in the past?

I am sure they are QIC80 tapes. Where are you located? EU here.
Any chance you are located in the EU?
