• IcyDraw 0.5.0

From Omnibrain@21:2/150 to All on Tue Dec 23 22:21:45 2025

    Christmas is here :)

    https://github.com/mkrueger/icy_tools/releases/tag/IcyDraw0.5.0

Same as the new icyterm/view - completely rewritten UI/UX experience

Users told me that icy draw should be a bit more like moebius/pablo draw
    that's what it is now.

    Without losing features.

It still can edit bit fonts, tdf fonts, animations and ofc
almost all ANSI formats. However I'm interested in feedback
    about the new UI/UX experience.

    New Feature: Collaboration.
Now you can connect to moebius servers or host sessions
    (moebius compatible).

Most drastic changes were in the bitfont editor - I took
fontraption ideas and integrated them into icy draw.

Animations can now exported in AV1 as well.
Still researching how to sanely support H256 without making
the binary 50MB bigger - or - producing uncompressed H256.
But AV1 is a good step for videos. Animated GIF/Asciicast
    still supported ofc.

IcyDraw got a MCP server! The AI can really help writing animations.
But so far I didn't get any AI client to really draw
useful ANSI graphics. But I hadn't time to really play with it.

Great additions - thanks for the development of another AWESOME ANSi editor; I bet the collab server will go over well with the artists in the w0rld!! Thanks, OB!

ty - icy draw won't get much attention - not many ppl do ansi art anymore. There I'm realistic pain/gain ratio is bad there.

The only program that get's used a bit is IcyTerm. However I think I'll chip in a QWK reader :).

Oh, I don't know about that - every year we have several people ask about ANSi editors... I'll be sure to mention icy draw in the future!

An icyQWK would me mighty fun... :P

IDK when - I took the time to make a little cmd line client for my decompression lib (github.com/mkrueger/unarc-rs) - can be installed with cargo: cargo install unarc-cli

It supports a ton of old formats and they're now usabale without dosbox - for the first time as far as I can tell :). Added new formats as well, ancryption & multi volume support and a way to crack passwords - sometimes I got old archives with pw protection - the algorithms used aren't strong.
Wouldn't really work for 7z (AES-256) bud old zip/arj/ace files are another story...

It will take some time to test everything. especially the new stuff. I just came back from the Christmas visit at my mothers.
Do we have some documentation for the collab server and MCP server feature. i guess i will find out myself and just download the 0.5.0

Thanks for doing all the work to create this amazing software! I appreciate it!

I've had lots of art done by Zeus II lately. He's pretty prolific and uses Moebius. I've told him about this program. I'm not sure if it would be an easy transition, but he's going to at least look at it!

The new stuff is better tested than the old one :).
In the file menu is connect to server - should be straightforward.

servers are started from command line - there is command line help. Will put more description in the readme.

IcyDraw surely needs more ppl testing it - overall I think it's good sw but ironing out the 1000 little things that could be better is still a huge task - and I'm not really using an ansi drawer often these days.

(Ok I never did - just sysop stuff)
