throwing around slur words like it's 1985.
Having no tolerance for intolerance is still intolerance.

    wikipedia is not notable.

As a (presumably) straight white man, I think you underestimate the effects bigotry has on minorities.

you're literally being a bigot right now.

I did a poor job of phrasing my thoughts here. In this point, I'm talking

it's hard to do that when you have 2 brain cells that are fighting.

that some other demographic would take over as the majority. My meaning is more along the lines of old straight white men becoming less & less dominant of a majority.

    good luck with life, they/them

btw, this is the synchronet discussion echo (i'm moving to general topic area) ---

How did I do that, by assuming you're a straight white man? The level of entitledness you display tends to be indicative of straight white men. I mean, I've seen racial minorities turn on other minorities, but it always baffles me. Minorities of all types would be best off sticking together.

I kinda wish I had time to troll properly with you, but I lead a busy life. I spend lots of time at work, or taking care of my family, or with my partner keeping me "busy". Besides, it's only a week until Pride month, I have way too many lesbian antics to take part in to waste my time on old straight men.

Yeah, Assuming he is a straight white man by his actions here alone is pretty bigoted.. I'm a straight whit man, and I don't care what anyone does or does'nt do, is or is'nt, as long as it does'nt me or my loved ones.. "Straight White Man" is a fairly large "Demographic".. so yes.. statistically it could come up like that in the numbers.. especially if they go back into the Jim Crow era.. because then, that is the only demographic that had a voice..

With the internet, everyone has a voice.. Now a lot of "demographics" are using that voice to really hurt themselves in the long-run..

From what I've seen in my life.. EVERYONE is bigoted, EVERYONE is racist, EVERYONE is self-centered, Some to a larger extent than others. Some are closeted, while others don't care to let it fly for all to hear. If you think anything differenly, you are lying to yourself.

Don't see this as a message protecting that behavior, because I despise it, and I hope the human race can evolve beyond it before we implode.

Was I trolling? Absolutely! Is that my interest in general? Not at all. I just get upset when I see people using slur words that were originally aimed at my people, taking them & throwing them around as "edgy insults" 1. at people they may not even apply to & 2. using such hurtful things in such a casual manner.

To any that want to come back with something like "grow a thicker skin" or any such sentiment: the attitudes that allow this hurt to be looked at as if it's no big deal, it effects people's views of us & literally puts us in mortal danger. People take on the attitude that we're not people & our lives don't matter, then they start taking our lives, sometimes virtually (by taking away our rights) & sometimes literally.

Yes. I also don't see straight white men having such a monopoly on entitledness, either. I see it in a lot of younger people regardless of
    race, gender, or sexual orientation.

They also mistake older people who worked hard for what they have as
"entitled" when they just want to protect what they've earned. The key
there is they "worked hard" for it and don't expect anything above what
they worked for, unlike the entitled youth who thinks their short time of (maybe) working entitles them to the same things.

Yes. I also don't see straight white men having such a monopoly on entitledness, either. I see it in a lot of younger people regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation.

They also mistake older people who worked hard for what they have as "entitled" when they just want to protect what they've earned. The key there is they "worked hard" for it and don't expect anything above what
they worked for, unlike the entitled youth who thinks their short time of (maybe) working entitles them to the same things.

I think of the ones that signed a contract, (loan) to go to college then expect the rest of us that worked like dogs to pay their loans off.

I am a straight white guy and I've feelt disadvantaged my entire life.
I feel like I have a target on my back in the workplace. I don't even talk to women and you can't use racial identifiers or people think you are racist. I even say black guy, white guy, big dude, etc.

yeah my ex's dad was a 'boomer' and people talked shit to him on facebook. he was a prolific flame warrior like myself. that being said, dude worked for everything he had. he worked when on vacation. he was a sales guy for industrial cnc machines. A lot of our vacations included a 1 day business meeting for him.

and then when he died his daughter who had nothing got all his money. she thought he was a piece of crap because he moved her around a lot when she was a kid. i pointed out he was trying to be a provider and during those times there were bad recessions where a lot of people couldn't find work.

Who tried to make child marriage legal recently? I know historically people did get married off at very young ages, but I have not seen any push to have that happen here in the US lately.

Missouri tried to ban child marriage but ran into resistance from house republicans.

The committee's chair, Rep. Jim Murphy, a St. Louis-area Republican, said in an interview that there aren't enough votes within the committee to get it to the House floor.

Seven of the 14 committee members oppose the legislation and disagree with raising the state's marriage age, he said. "It's on the.going 16 to 18,"

Murphy, who supports the bill, said of the opposition. "There's just enough members in that committee that don't think that's a good idea." One of those lawmakers is Rep. Dean Van Schoiack, a Savannah Republican and vice chair of the committee. Van Schoiack said in an interview that he knows people who got married as minors, including a woman at roughly age 17. The couple, he said, is "still madly in love with each other."

"Why is the government getting involved in people's lives like this?" Van Schoiak said. "What purpose do we have in deciding that a couple who are 16 or 17 years old, their parents say, you know, `you guys love each other, go ahead and get married, you have my permission.' Why would we stop that?"

I love /s how my desire to have the same rights as straight people is considered an "agenda" & how my desire to not be murdered is considered my "view". That's really all Pride is about, our demands (you're damn well right, we DEMAND) to be safe & have the same rights as everyone else, including the right to fair jobs access, fair housing, everything that straight people expect for themselves. Pride is about normalizing our existence in the world, not about trying to "shove our views in everyone's face".

Except, maybe there's an LGBTQ person out there that's been afraid to come out & maybe seeing my posts will help them be less afraid.

Second, I could care less about being a "good gay", the ones that make sure to cave to the desires of straight people, to make sure they don't cross that line of what's acceptable to y'all. Have you ever heard the analogy of not thinking the leopards would ever eat MY face? That's what happens to "good gays", eventually the people they're putting on a good show for turn on them too, once they've gotten what they need from them. And no, don't pull out some shit about "you're saying all straight people are leopards that are going to eat the faces of gay people", the leopards eating faces are straight people that pretend to support gay people just long enough to try to get us to let our guards down.

I say let them do it, especially if they have children. I'm not for much older marrying younger, though.

I had a kid young and i would have married young if i had the opportunity at the time. we were in a 'common law' marriage for 11 years. that's better than most adults I know.

I also didn't live with my parents until I was 35.

Marriage is such a joke now. People shouldn't marry without an ironclad prenup. Even if you're poor.

Your strategy consists in antagonizing everybody who does not belong to your chosen group, which is a very bad strategy. When people realizes you are dividing society in a group consisting of "you" and a group consisting of "everybody else" and notices you are waging war against the second, they may decide it is worth it to build up a political defense to annihilate you before you annihilate them.

And yes, you are waging war against "everybody else" despite your claims to the contrary. Your words ooze hate and resentment. You may attempt to sugar coat it but it does not work better than a nazi saying he has some non-white friend somewhere.

There is also the point that rainbow politics are far beyond achieving human rights for homosexuals. It is just convenient that demands for equal human rights can be used as a cover. Meanwhile you have homosexuals supporting politicians who also support religious zealots that would have homosexuals killed, which comes to show word-soup politics is not necessarily related to homosexual rights. ie. there are political agendas and interests and a bunch of them arenḉ t pretty.

our existence in the world, not about trying to "shove our views in everyone's face".

this has to be a joke. easily the largest source of violence against your community is from within. domestic violence is huge .. why do you hate each other? everything you read will say the violence is perpetrated by a "partner" .. what sort of parter do you expect a gay person might choose? everyone is so desperate to make it seem like random straight guys are going around beating up gay (or trans or whatever) people for fun.

do you know how hard it is to find modern recent examples of "gay bashing" like you want to fearmonger? wikipedia, the source for all things bullshit, repeatedly will use wording like "in some countries" and other vague wording.. do you know how large the USA section of the Violence against LGBT people page is? And half of it is COPE about "ohh, it's because nobody reports it" .. and you know what happens when you lot have nothing to complain about in the US? "well, it's still happening somewhere on the planet!" ..

it gets even more annoying when it's like "this homeless gay person was robbed! gay homeless people are more likely to be robbed! like 95%!" .. imagine i robbed 100 people and 5 of them were gay.. a perhaps generous estimate of the % of people in the US who are gay.. do you see how that skews
that statistics? almost every homeless person gets robbed. holy cow all the homeless gay people got robbed, we have to do something about this violence against queer people!

then you keep getting at how "words are violence" .. you repeatedly lump the word "fag" in with "pedophile" and "groomer" the first is an insult against a trait that can't be changed.. a part of who you are, as some people insist. but the second two it's obvious you would want to defend against. but if you remove the second two we have the two options here:

    "fag" <-> "straight white men"

these are traits that can't be changed, and your usage is meant to degrade and demean. do you make fun of the handicapped? perhaps people with speech impediments? bash a few redheads now and again? these are now both traits protected under the Civil Rights Act btw.. but talking about progress is lame right?

Yes. I also don't see straight white men having such a monopoly on entitledness, either. I see it in a lot of younger people regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation.

They also mistake older people who worked hard for what they have as "entitled" when they just want to protect what they've earned. The key there is they "worked hard" for it and don't expect anything above what they worked for, unlike the entitled youth who thinks their short time of (maybe) working entitles them to the same things.

I think of the ones that signed a contract, (loan) to go to college then expect the rest of us that worked like dogs to pay their loans off.

Exactly the types I was thinking of. The folks in that category are almost exclusively young and are very entitled. Very few, if any, older men or
women in that group of any race, gender, or orientation.

Who tried to make child marriage legal recently? I know historically people >> did get married off at very young ages, but I have not seen any push to have >> that happen here in the US lately.

Missouri tried to ban child marriage but ran into resistance from house republicans.

OK, so they apparently already are legal if they were trying to ban them.

Who is trying to make them legal in places where marriage between the age
    of 16-18 isn't *already* legal?

Seven of the 14 committee members oppose the legislation and disagree with raising the state's marriage age, he said. "It's on the.going 16 to 18,"

So it is not ok for a 16-or-17 year old to be married (with parental
consent) but it is ok to expose that "child," and ones even younger, to books with pornographic images (just so long as they are same-sex images), even
when the parents oppose the idea?

"Why is the government getting involved in people's lives like this?" Van Schoiak said. "What purpose do we have in deciding that a couple who are 16 or
17 years old, their parents say, you know, `you guys love each other, go ahead
and get married, you have my permission.' Why would we stop that?"

So it is only legal with parental consent. They are not trying to *make it legal*, it is *already* legal.

By the way, you don't have to pick on a "hick state" for this, either. California also allows persons under 18 to marry with parental consent,
    just like Missouri does.

On the surface, I don't think that is a good idea to allow those < 18 to get married, but it sounds like they already do.

"Celebrate peace month with us! 40% off in any obsolete weaponry! Help the planet purchasing refurbished tanks instead of having new ones made! Try now our steel ammo, much less poisonous to the environment than traditional lead ammo, 30% off this month only!!!!"

MANY states allow marrying at the age of 16 with consent.

our existence in the world, not about trying to "shove our views in everyone's face".

this has to be a joke. easily the largest source of violence
against your community is from within. domestic violence is huge
.. why do you hate each other? everything you read will say the
violence is perpetrated by a "partner" .. what sort of parter do
you expect a gay person might choose? everyone is so desperate to
make it seem like random straight guys are going around beating
up gay (or trans or whatever) people for fun.

do you know how hard it is to find modern recent examples of "gay
bashing" like you want to fearmonger? wikipedia, the source for
all things bullshit, repeatedly will use wording like "in some
countries" and other vague wording.. do you know how large the
USA section of the Violence against LGBT people page is? And half
of it is COPE about "ohh, it's because nobody reports it" .. and
you know what happens when you lot have nothing to complain about
in the US? "well, it's still happening somewhere on the planet!"
    ..

it gets even more annoying when it's like "this homeless gay
person was robbed! gay homeless people are more likely to be
robbed! like 95%!" .. imagine i robbed 100 people and 5 of them
were gay.. a perhaps generous estimate of the % of people in the
US who are gay.. do you see how that skews that statistics?
almost every homeless person gets robbed. holy cow all the
homeless gay people got robbed, we have to do something about
    this violence against queer people!

then you keep getting at how "words are violence" .. you
repeatedly lump the word "fag" in with "pedophile" and "groomer"
the first is an insult against a trait that can't be changed.. a
part of who you are, as some people insist. but the second two
it's obvious you would want to defend against. but if you remove
the second two we have the two options here:

    "fag" <-> "straight white men"

these are traits that can't be changed, and your usage is meant
to degrade and demean. do you make fun of the handicapped?
perhaps people with speech impediments? bash a few redheads now
and again? these are now both traits protected under the Civil
Rights Act btw.. but talking about progress is lame right?

with that opinion. First of all, I have no delusion that I'm going to convince anyone here of anything, I'm really not sure why I even keep responding. Except, maybe there's an LGBTQ person out there that's been afraid to come out & maybe seeing my posts will help them be less afraid.

Back in the day, before my time (I am over 50), they promoted cigarettes differently. In some cases, I believe that consumers were even lead to

By the time I came along, there was already some PSA advertising,

you. They had not yet got to promoting the dangers of second-hand smoke,
or smoking while pregnant, but they'd at least got as far as it could kill
    you.

I had a lot of relatives, but none I lived with, that were life-long
smokers at the time. It was really difficult for them to even consider stopping. What surprised me was how many people my age, and slightly
younger, who picked up the habit despite the dire warnings.

It surprises me even more now that cigarette smoking seems to be making a comeback.

I have noticed that there's a lot of smokers, and they continue on. It's extremely addicting. I started smoking around 10 and I stopped when i was 28 and I still want a cig when I smell someone smoking one. If you have friends who smoke you pretty much have no chance of quitting.

in my area they just kept the ashtrays out and paid the little fine.
eventually owners changed and they took that away.

i have mixed feelings. I don't like stinking like cigs.
they should just have bars with smoking and bars with non smoking.

furthermore, part of my reason for quitting is people were always hitting me up for cigs. either random losers on the street or people who quit buying cigs and just borrow from people. totally annoying.

my casino went to non smoking and i wonder how that hurt them. nobody there is going to go into a smoking area. they want to smoke at the machines.

I had a lot of relatives, but none I lived with, that were life-long smokers at the time. It was really difficult for them to even consider stopping. What surprised me was how many people my age, and slightly younger, who picked up the habit despite the dire warnings.

It surprises me even more now that cigarette smoking seems to be making a comeback.

I never had I blood-sugar until after I quit smoking and drinking sodas, etc.. I'ts crazy.. All of it started less than a month after I stopped, But I had also stopped a long bout of an opoid addiction so I'm sure that may have had more to do with a lot of the health issues.

I'm happy I stopped too.. It's crazy I tried and tried to stop smoking numerous times and never could, then one day I just had an epiphany that I was not going to die young and leave a good looking corps like I thought I was going to. That I was actually probably going to live a lot longer than I thought and I wanted my body to be able to keep up with my mind. After that I just could'nt smoke anymore. cigarettes tasted like crap.. I kept a pack in my pocket for a whole week just in case, but I just could'nt light another up.

The opiotes were a little harder to come off of after so many years of use and abuse, it wasnt like I was getting high off them anymore, I was just maintaining. But I'm so happy to be off all that.. And sugary drinks too.. I stopped it all, all around the same time 4 years ago.

To this day I still cannot stand to smell cigarettes and cant stand the taste or the consistancy of a soda, cannot believe I used to consume so much of that crap.

Yep, I've known of a couple people that have died that way. Addiction is bad and one cannot let themselves think that they are above it, or over it.. theres always that one event, sound, smell, or anything that could trigger a relapse. So definaly I stay very aware of that and use time to stop and think. It's definatly not worth it, I have distanced myself from ANYONE I used to hang with. It's far too dangerous anymore to fool with anything, they are putting carfentanil in EVERYTHING, spiking pain pills, xanax. vapes. marijuana, I mean everything. and it's crazy.. there is definatly no room for complacency.

The other one said "I don't know, I never looked."

I've been doing this for years as well. In fact having a club soda
now. It does fool me into thinking I'm not missing out.

I drank tonic waters in clubs with lime and didn't miss the gin - it's
still a favorite drink of mine.

Yes it does. Even when they come in from outside after smoking the cheap native "bag o' smokes".

Ugh, I had a buddy that smoked cloves all the time. I actually had to air ou my clothes even when I'd ONLY been in the same room with him, not even aroun when smoking or anything.

clove cigarettes taste nice but i never thought of how it made those around me smell. now i will rethink that.
